I've been a lurking for a spell. I have loved looking at the great cabins on here. I do not consider myself as having great carpentry skills but things are coming together. I chose to do something a bit different with my cabin. I purchased a pole barn kit with the intention of splitting it in half with two rooms. Once I got the kit up I realized I wanted more room. I ended up with a total foot print of 20x 48. I wanted a front porch so I built one 10x20. As you walk into the cabin/barn the first room is 20x20. This will be my cabin/showroom. The second room is 20x18. This is my shop area where I do my taxidermy work. I have been working on it for 4 years so far. It is located a 100 yards from the house so I get to work on it regularly. I would love to hear if anyone else has taken this approach. I'll try to attach some photos of my progress so far.

I have done all of the work myself so far. I find it hard to find time to work on it and the cost of materials slow me down a good bit. Working on the inside

I was very excited when I finally got the stove hooked up so I could sit by it. The family has enjoyed going out to it just to hang out. For the flooring I used cheap furing strips. I just stained them and butted them up against each other. If it shrinks a bit, Oh well. A little table I made

Racks is the name of my taxidermy business so I thought it would be cool to incorporate it here.
I plan on wiring then insulating the walls and ceiling. I'm going to probably put tongue and groove pine for the walls and use old rusty tin for the roof. I'll post pics as I go and post them. I would love to hear about any other cabins made from pole barns.

Putting up 13" board and batten. I bought this from a local guy who runs a small saw mill.

I've got most of my board and batten up. I used sweet gum that I ripped on my table saw to place around the windows and doors. I shouldn't have to worry about rot because it shouldn't get wet. I picked up the old Coleman lantern for 12 bucks. I'll be converting this to electric and it will be my porch light. I picked up 4 ladder back chairs at the flea market for 10 apiece which was a steal. I've made a firewood holder out of logs by using my tenon cutter. As soon as the weather cools off some, I will work on the inside.
