Larry, I looked at cabinconcepts and their products are very good. I had a question - how did you attach their cabin to your floor? I found out on their website that they do not offer flooring or foundation...

the wall base is screwed to the deck by the same screws used to join the panels. i used a foam seal where the walls meet the floor to fill any gaps and a caulk type sealer between the panels. it was all too easy.

I have property in Atlanta, MI and wanted to build a mini cabin 168sq ft. Are you saying that the bldg inspector said that we cannot build anything under 700? I am hesitant to go into talk with him as I may be building it without his input or tax hike.

i don't recall anything about size restrictions??? however i didn't get a inspector involved , like you i did'nt want to raise my taxes.

yes,i have been gone all summer but i have good reason. we decided to install water and a septic field. have a look at the work that has been going on.

so after the trench was laid the water line was installed. why i did that on a 90 degree weekend ill never know. when i returned home i was hospitalized with MRSA for 3 days and almost lost my left arm. then i started on the building and septic.

Did you end up putting in insulation? If so, was it difficult on the panel walls? Got any more pictures of the interior? I've looked at Panel Concepts in the past and would like to know if you're happy with their product after being in the cabin for over a year. Anything you'd do different?

i have not put in insulation but it is not hard at all. the unit i have was designed to be insulated if desired. the space in the walls is 2in. and will accommodate a 4x8 sheet of poly insulation. once complete it would have to be faced with something, panel concepts offers a kit for this. as for the cabin, we love it. it is weathering the northern Michigan winters well. this year it will need to be stained to make certain it doesn't rot, after all its only pine boards. if i could have done anything different i would have covered the porch during construction. as it is i will be doing it this spring as well as completing the bathroom.

after a busy spring the shower/ toilet is about done. i was able to find the mill that made the logs for the cabin and buy 8 footers to face it. this is how it looks now.

i have 2 sinks, one for hand washing and one for dishes. the are both in the out building because i didn't want to run water inside the cabin.

Looks awesome. If you don't mind me asking, how did you install the water, septic, and electricity without permits?
I ask as someone who built a large cabin in Michigan without permits. I had a local guy install septic who has been doing it for 40 years and run my own well and electricity is from a large solar array.

I have a natural flow that dumps into my pond, I just installed a pump and ran a line to the cabin. I had a local electrician run a service drop from the pole to my transformer. I ran the service cable to the panel. The sweet part of the deal is the septic system. 45 years ago a local excavator did work for my grandfather. I made some inquiries about installing a tank and field discreetly and was referred to the aforementioned man. He installed a minimum spec system for $1500.00. Best damn money ever spent. All without permits!

Thanks, great info. Our place runs entirely on solar but our location does not supply enough sunlight in the winter to sustain us -- so we are relying on charging our batteries up with a generator every day or 2. I am contemplating trying to pull a building permit and the whole can of worms that will open so I can get power run to our location. We wouldn't power our house directly with the grid -- just solar -- and use it as a generator of sorts.
I am jealous of your septic costs!

Did the kit come with the t&g interior, or did you buy that separately? Any pics of that being installed?
I like that separate, but attached, shower and toilet. I would like to see some pics of the shower please. Thx!

there is no interior sheeting on my unit but if i had chosen the option for insulation it would have come with t&g 1x pine. the original idea was for a 3 season cabin but even the best laid plans...as for now we don't use the place much from end of December to the end of march. the shower is outdoors but has a curtain. we are able to use it even when the temps are in the mid 30s so long as is isn't windy, brr. if you look close you can see the faucet and shower head . i must have been leaving because i put the chairs in the shower.
