4 days 14 hours till we close on our river property! It has seemed like forever since we signed the contract but the time is finally near.
Closing is 10am on Friday and we took the whole day off we we can go straight there  Guess what we're doing next weekend? Woohooooo!

The big day finally came!!! We signed papers this morning, it was 9 degrees F and really windy. Even though it was super cold I was bound and determined to go and do some exploring!
We took our time, got some lunch etc before we got there hoping it would warm up some. It was about 24 when we got there. Bundled up and away we went.
It was great to finally get to see the property since we didn't walk around a whole lot when we went to look at it. After being there a couple hours it had warmed up a fair amount and the wind settled to a tolerable breeze. We had a lot of fun.
I even started clearing brush. The property was logged several years ago (selective) and due to that has LOTS of scrub trees and so forth. Some areas are fairly open, some are tough to walk thru. That's ok, it'll be awesome when I'm done.
My weed eater with brush cutter attachment was ideal for cutting the small scrub trees. It'll clear out an area in a hurry without bending over!
I'll clean up the bigger stuff, trim, and cut up the dead fallen stuff with a chainsaw.
A skid steer would be a lot of fun and that may need to happen later.
Our property also includes a little river bed area. You can see some of that in the tire pic which I thought was funny. ;)

looks like there is lots of high and dry spots for your cabin .keep us in the loop, LOTS OF HELP HERE' GOOD LUCK..

Thank you! Most of the property sits about 100' above the river, but there is still access
It will be like a different world when everything greens up!

What a weekend! After a month of super cold temps we had an awesome weekend of warmth. I'm not sure how high it actually got but they were predicting upper 50's. It was nice that's for sure. We spent most of the day in t-shirts. We spent from Friday to Sunday cutting brush and exploring. Our 11 y/o son had a blast. When we told him we were looking at river property he couldn't understand and he told me I should buy a newer truck instead lol. On the way home the first day he saw it he told me he was glad I didn't get a truck lol!
The neighbor told us our property used to be an indian camp site so we have even more fun stuff to do!
LOTS more brush cutting to do but we did make some progress. I concentrated on opening up a main trail thru the property and cleaning off one area real well for a future campsite.

You property looks very nice. What river are you on? My place is on the Big River outside of Bonne Terre MO. We camped for a couple of years before we built our cabin.

looks like a great property. Nice to see your son enjoying it. Our kids have a blast. swimming in the pond and exploring in general. They stay so busy, falling asleep is always easy at our place

Thanks! Our property is on the Gasconade property on the Laclede/Pulaski county line.
Finally camped there for the first time last weekend!

Good luck and have fun ! I also get lots of enjoyment looking thru all the pictures that everyone posts of their projects. Plus I get lots of ideas that I may utilize myself.

I really like all the photos too, very helpful for sure.
We finally had a quick opportunity to camp at our new property last weekend. I hadn't been able to get down there for two months so I had to do some serious weed trimming before the storm came thru. It was a quick trip and so much work to do at the property but my son had fun so that's all that matters.

Three years later... lol
We still haven't built a cabin on the property yet. Money has been a hold up, time has also been an issue. We've debated selling, or selling half.
We did have a dozer come in last winter and clear for a road and a cabin spot. He did a really great job and improved the area a lot in a short amount of time which was very nice.
We've recently revisited the idea of buying a prebuilt cabin.
I was planning on setting posts in concrete but everywhere I read says concrete piers is the way to go.
We visited a place that builds really well built portable buildings/cabins and we talked about piers. He said they usually don't set a building on piers and said I should just set it on a bed of gravel. I'm not really hip on that idea. I would like yalls opinions on that.
Another thing is if we're doing piers I need a tractor. I need a tractor down there anyway for many purposes, but definitely for the pier holes. Missouri isn't exactly easy digging. My wife isn't having that idea though.... because if we spend money on a tractor then we won't have money for a cabin.
