I buy it from H&H lumber in Superior. Lately it is labeled Gunflint, I suppose that's Hedstrom's in Grand Marais.

I wish I hadn't paid to have it shipped down to Superior then hauled it right back up the North Shore, silly.

The rough sawn siding is done and I'm going back to finish tomorrow. Crazy prices on the green rough sawn 1x8's. I could have bought planed and kiln dried for much less. It is at least an inch thick, but still. I'm sure it will look nice. I'll post more pictures Fri. night.

Beautiful work Owen. I'm curious, does this construction have/need any sort of roof venting between the insulation and the metal roof, say soffit to ridge type or what?
Thanks.

Yes, there is a slight void between roof sheathing and insulation then a 2'' open strip under the ridge cap that is screened. Some sofet venting is also a good idea. Remember cabins don't need as much as a house with laundry, showers, etc.

Well it's now done, at least my part. The customer wanted a partition across under the loft, but when he heard I would charge $800 for it, he declined. I have 120 man hours into it and six trips to the site. I'm happy with that since several days of vacation went into those trips.

Can you tell me what the advantage of using pine boards over sheetrock is? What is the cost comparison and is it more difficult to put up than sheetrock? Thanks

Sheetrock is way cheaper, bright, and has no places for flies to hide. T&G pine is solid, can't punch holes in it. Also I've never been good with sheetrock. I would have to hire an expert, then it would cost more. I have seen cracks show up in rock too. A mix of each is preferred.
