I made some simple candle sconces for the cabin. Easy to build and will add a nice touch I think.

Those sconces are a wonderful design, Ontario Lakeside!

PS) I just want to add here that you're really getting to be an outstanding videographer. Your close-ups (some of them were probably a real pain to get, I'll bet) & all your painstakingly meticulous editing are way more instructive for viewers than your average YouTube tutorial. Heck, they're even better than a lot of the professional How-Tos.

Ontario

My solar setup is almost complete, Since using volt lithium batteries have you found good reading material on the batteries? There are a few parameters settings that I would like to understand on the Victron and how they relate to this particular type of lithium battery.

In example
Absorption voltage
Max absorption time
And equalization voltage.

I use

Absorption voltage 48.3
Max absorption time 3hours
Equalization is not required for lithium.

Of course Creeky is the authority on Lithium.

I guess I should also then ask what is float set at.?
Since equalization is not necessary and the software does not allow zero to be entered did you just leave at 48v? (I am looking over settings in demo mode, i am not aware yet if the values can be zeroed out once actually connected and communicating with the controller.

Thanks

Hey OL
Good video re. the Tankless Ecotemp Water Heater. In the vid you say its temp at the moment, but you will move it at a later date. The ecotemp 5L is only for outdoor use, right? you wouldn't move it inside?

we installed the water heater on a outside wall. Some people do install these indoors but Im not willing to risk it.

OL,

I watched much of the series for your cabin build tonight. What a vision you had from the beginning (not to mention $$$). And so many skills to go with it! But it really is nice to see such an industrious group, from young to middle to aged, all taking part in the vision. You should be an NHL coach since you got so many to buy into your vision!!

Hey OL - where / what type 12 volt rechargeable battery have you been using for the Ecotemp shower system. CDN tire tried to sell me a deep cycle beast (200.00)..but that's overkill. I just need something small.
My wife just bought a clawfoot tub off kijiji....my back is still recovering from trying to get it in my truck...so it looks like I am making her an outdoor shower / bathtub set up this spring!! I figure I can charge it easy enough with my Yamaha genny when needed. Thanks for the help!
We're in Sarnia by the way...but from the big TO originally.

I used 2 12 volt sealed lead acid batteries from a electric lawn mower my neighbour was throwing in the trash. They are still going strong 5 years later. you can buy them new here

Hey Ontario lakeside, love the videos. Was just watching your composting toilet video. We have a separett too, and so far so good. I was just curious - you mention you will fill a barrel over the course of a year and then cover it for another year. This seems to be a lot longer than the separett folks describe, is there a reason? I am trying to figure out what to do with our buckets as well. We only recently bought the property and I have discovered that the previous owners built a small box that holds three of the buckets and has a hinged lid attached to the back of the outhouse. Not sure if I will use that or your barrel idea.

Ours is only 3 season. I figured after 6 months of sitting it is ok to be buried as compost? Just wondered how you came to your idea?

Ps... Hope to build the outdoor shower this summer!

Hey Rickant

I picked 1 year as our composting time just to be safe. Its probably longer than necessary but I'd rather be sure its fully composted!

In the first year we ended up with about 3/4 barrel. That composted for 1 year and then was added around trees ect.

Thanks for this video!

Watched the icemaker vid, but comments are disabled...Any feedback on power use? Is the 2.6 amps momentary, or for minutes or...? Any idea what it uses over a couple hours on average?

Thanks

The 2.6 amps is during the ice ejection cycle. About 30 sec every 20 min. Im not sure of the power consumption over hours is.
