Our house sold to the first couple to look at it in less than 5 hours! Now I need to really"put a wiggle in it" as my MIL says, ;)

Scored free oak kitchen cabinets for the cabin. Tomorrow I also may get a free birch bathroom door and a free solid surface shower surround. Now, all I need is to score a cheap gas stove and I am golden.; 0)

Got house sold, just need some window estimates, assessor to come, and closing date for that. Oh, and final cleaning.
Our usual dirt guy couldn't do work on the cabin until end of July or later. Had an unbonded, unlicensed, uninsured friend that he trusted to do work for him that he couldn't do himself. Took a risk. Guy did fabulous work, and gave us a discount as my husband is a vet. So we have electric, septic, and water properly stubbed under the cabin. He and our cabinet friend also gave my husband the confidence that he could rough the plumbing himself. With no loan, no inspections because we are outside the burrough, he is going to do it. Likely save us a ton of money.
Unfortunately, we lost our long time cabin buddy. Lucy, our black lab with Addison's disease, tore one acl and a week later the other. At 80 pounds I couldn't lift her, she couldn't go potty alone, and my husband plans to still work some. At 5 years old, we had to gently lay her to rest with her chuck-it and ball on the property she loved in her grouse and bunny hunting grounds. She was bewildered at not being able to use those back legs, and seeing as she was the fastest dog I ever saw (dogs at the dog park wouldn't even TRY for a ball if Lucy was there), we knew it would be for the best. Still, mighty hard.
Anybody breed labradors? I miss her greeting, and that amazing habit of "sneaking" into my lap for a cuddle.
Next project, plumbing.

K, I am sorry about the loss of your lab. We have had ours "Dixie" almost five years and, well she is just a part of our family. I think there just isn't a better dog. It is just so hard to give up a dear pet.
Congrats on all you've got done towards your cabin!

so sorry to hear about you dog. This is hard, esp at 5 yo.
If you're going to pick up another lab, make sure the breeders does ton of health checks, sadly labs do have a lot of heritable health issues.
Dog's life is short even if they live a full span

Sorry to here about your loss, brought a tear to my eye thinking about some we have had to put down. Took awhile before I got another, but I did and she has wormed herself into our life rather nicely.

Thanks, Trollbridge! We have a new partner in crime😄. She is a six month old lab mix from the pound. Couldn't do a puppy and a build tight now.

Kitchen has total function. Love not having to go to the camper to cook and eat.
Bath is done except for a mirror and couple of pieces of moulding.
Molly is a dream dog. Incredibly smart, ready to lay in her bed when we are busy, play when we aren't. Plays by herself with sticks and toys.

Congrats on FUNCTION. Yay! Style too, I see! I like your tile backsplash-pretty! looks like you worked out plenty of storage space in the kitchen with the use of the upper cabinets.

We saw a bull that wasn't legal and a cow the other day. It is the rut so we try to stay out of their way. They can be erratic this time of year.
Thanks for comments on backsplash. I like old things, and the subway style tiles in a modern twist with color appealed to me.
Snowed in Anchorage the last two days so my husband is anxious to get the skirt done.

plumbing is our next deal also. I must admit, I am a bit intimidated by the idea of no hole in the floor, no pipes etc.. and installing the entire thing from scratch.
Trying to picture how it all goes in is just not easy to do.
I figure.. cut a 3" hole in the floor where the toilet goes, another where the shower goes, and set up a flange. Once the right stuff is on the hole, so it "looks" like I am replacing something at the house with a foundation, I will probably be fine.. heh.

We began to finish the upstairs, now that we have wood coming out of our ears. The tongue in groove ceiling is light and airy, the finished windows are beautiful, and we decided to do the ends in sheetrock to relieve some of the wood. Ir was a great decision. Painted them a beautiful lemon vanilla like color that reflects light wonderfully. (Have you noticed a theme here, light is important in Alaska).

The upstairs should be done in the next few days, and odds and ends in the bath, sowe will have two completed rooms. Whew!
Sawdust is everywhere, and I haven't even bothered to dust in a while, but with the exception of the floor, we are nearing a finish line for that project. Nexf one? Main floor ceiling. Hate ceilings and working overhead.

So, upstairs is finished (minus doors on knee wall storage). Hubby doing ceiling on main floor. Going slow, because he varathanes first, then installs several boards at a time. Summer temps would make this faster, but it sure is pretty. I also painted one wall in a very light blue (again to steer away from too much (testosterone) wood. Turned out great. I am a better drywaller than I thought! Pics soon.

Hubby got one t&g wall finished and part of ceiling downstairs. I finished one with drywall. Looks good, starting to feel like the cabin WILL eventually get done.
Ceiling is broken into three sections by wood beams, so we are doing a diagonal, then opposite diagonal on each section (eventually).
Semi-retired hubby is working for a week, then back to it.
