Tim, I've been reading this entire thread and have enjoyed all of it. So much so that I sent the link to my wife ( i'm currently 'out of the area') and we ordered the book to have for hands on. Great work!! Thank you for posting with all the pictures and I look forward to building our cabin when I return home in a couple months. I will be home in a couple weeks for a break and we're gonna do our layout and maybe the piers / posts then. We ordered 'The Huntsman" plans @ http://www.townandcountryplans.com/huntsman.html and cant wait to get started.
Keep up the great work and Thanks again for sharing!!

Thanks Stubby, I was about to begin finishing the interior now that the wiring is done, but I am having second thoughts. Since the weather has been so incredibly mild, I am thinking about putting the front porch on now, instead of waiting until spring. I will be deciding that very soon and will post pics of what ever it is I do. Thanks again, Tim

Thanks everybody! Yeasterday just as I quit, it started snowning. It lasted all night. So, this morning I decided to stay home in the shop and cut the spindles. Well..........I just couldn't stand it. I wanted to see what they would look like put on. So, in the wind and blowing snow, I went to the cabin. Here are some more pics Zi6_6672.JPG

Yeasterday, I put the porch roof on. It was cold, windy and miserable, but somehow I managed to get it put on. Now all that is left on the front is the steps and step railing. Here are some pics: Zi6_6710.JPG

trollbridge Funny you should mention that. lol......We have come full circle on our plans for the interior finish.
First we talked about wood run horizontally. I get the rough sawn for 35 cents a board foot (or square foot). That was my first choice. She wasn't crazy about rough sawn on the inside, so we checked out toung and groove "V" groove siding.
Around here, "V" groove runs about $1.50 a square foot. Then we thought about drywall, which is about 25 cents a square foot. I was about to stop and get the first load of drywall when my wife saw an article in the current Martha Stewart "Living".
There were pictures (page 119) of a 540 square foot cottage (same size as ours) with the rough sawn lumber in the interior, run horizontally, and painted white.
She loved it! I am ordering the lumber this afternoon!
QUICK! Before she changes her mind!!

Yep....but I don't think I really needed the ring shank. Nails hold unbelievably well in green wood. I mostly used them for the galvanized part. Tim

This is a beautiful look Tim! Bright and airy and I can understand why your wife loves it! I am really excited to watch it all come together for you. We got our rough sawn lumber for 35 cents a board foot also and felt really good about the price. It will soak up the paint-you may want to consider spraying it on, but it will look fabulous when it is done

Looks great Tim! Just curious, when you slide the porch roof under the main house roof did you have to seal between the two? any concerns with snow building up there and water melting between the two? Thinking about doing something similar and wasn't sure if I needed to be worried about anything like that.
Thanks keep the pics coming...
