I finished painting the base cabinets today while the wife was at work. I was sure I would have a run or flaw of some kind that she would spot and insist I fix it. lol.....but, I actually passed inspection.
While putting the hardware on, I noticed they didn't look quite as great as we invisioned. When my wife got there after work, she agreed, so I stopped putting them on. We are going to go back and get the same exact style, only in a pewter finish. We should have thought of that with the gray. Oh well, live and learn. cab18.jpg

Tonight, we took the cabinet hardware back to Menards. We got the puter hardware, kitchen sink, faucet, plywood for the counter tops, and the tile for the counter tops. We found a gray grannet we just loved. (It is just laying there to check the color)
The puter hardware sure looks better too! tile1.jpg

I don't mind answering at all. My whole reason for posting and making my blog at www.littlehouseonthehill.weebly.com was to help people build affordable homes, cottages, cabins. Due to my constructions methods, and materials used, I have only spent about 16K so far. I think the house will be finished for under 20k, not including well and septic which are incredibly expensive! But, for under 48K, including the land, we will be moved in. Oh....and thanks for the compliment!

We can't wait to move in! I am about 2 months behind where I had hoped to be, but that still isn't bad when you look at the whole project. Do you have a thread on here? Are there any pictures you can share?

Quoting: larry great job and outstanding price..so when will you be seling your home..lol Our original plan was to have it on the market about now. But, if it sold quickly (you never know) the cottage isn't ready. So, now, we decided to wait until we move. That way, the house can get cleaned and ready to sell, and stay pretty much ready to show at any time. Probably be late July, early August sometime. Here is our current home: Outside_decorations_.jpg

hi again Tim. (posted the other day without being signed in as a member) as mentioned, we did our build, then sold the big house. it's been 12 glorious years, and we love it with all the excitement like it was yesterday! you are wise to wait to list your house until you're ready. we listed, sold QUICK (even at top price!), and we weren't quite done with the loft bedroom when we moved in. fun still, tho. (but a bit more messy for a while than I would have liked. lol!) I just love your cabin, and am so excited for you.

I got the wood and cement board for the tile counter tops tonight on the way home from work. We met at the cottage and started right in on them. The front is trimed in a 4 piece molding assembly. Here are some pics. tile1a.jpg

Here is what the molding is like. The tiles that you see are just sitting there to establish spacing to the front trim. tile7a.jpg

Tim, I wouldn't have thought about the wood trim. I love it. You have to be the hardest working man I sort of know.

Today, I layed out all the tile, cut everything to size, then glued everything down with thin set. It took most of the day. Oh....and we have a "new neighbor". As soon as she had her house built, she had a flock of kids! It didn't take her near as long to build hers either! lol tile22a.jpg

Well, it has been "decided" several times. lol....first it was white "subway tile". Then, our daughter suggested embossed tin that Lowes sells as back splash. It is like the old tin ceilings. Then it appeared in a magazine somewhere, so it was decided! Then, she priced it......................I think we are now back to white subway tile.

LOL.......I love that tin back splash!!! I looked into doing some ceilings with the "new" tiles but it was a lot of $$$. They sell them online. I wouldn't think a back splash would be that much with the ones I saw online. There were many styles and finishes to choose from too, take a minute or two and see what you can find.

Remember the bedroom shelves? A "basket factory outlet" just opened, right on the way to the cottage from our current house. I love it when a plan comes together! 030b.jpg

She's a beauty Tim! I think it's a great build. You have a great deal to be proud of. I think our next project will be to put the battens on and trim-out the windows , etc. Then the paint.....but it would be nice to take a break for awhile. Old Old Buddy

Thanks for the great pictures and documenting the process! Really inspiring for those of us who want to build mortgage free!
I like the flooring idea too using the paneling. The wood is beautiful. You build a great home!
