Congratulations! When you had disappeared for a few days I thought you might be in labor. Then again what does an old single sailor know about babies and such? I beautiful baby just in time for her first Christmas, You truly are blessed. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to You and your family.

Hope you all had a very merry Christmas!!!!

Noelle enjoyed her first Christmas by basically sleeping through the whole day in the arms of family members! Other than in the car, I don't think she was really put down all day...what's not to love about that? We may create a spoiled baby here, but she is just so warm and snugly. I just love the way babies mold right into you!

She is the best Christmas gift ever!!!!

Thanks Owen...she is a joy to take care of...I feel so fortunate to be her mom!

So I wonder how she will like the cabin? I think she will enjoy it there...especially the warmth from the wood stove....... and she does well in the car too so hopefully before not too much more time goes by we will get to take her.
!
Exsailor...you would know more about babies than you think you would...it's really just a matter of following your instincts

OOB...I don't foresee any more children in my future...just grandchildren! Lol

And Martian...she has slept many more 6 hour stretches... so I think I really lucked out...knock on wood...

Mr. or Mrs. Troll-
How wide are your batten strips and how far apart did you space them?

Please post your answer on our site if you would please. How is the baby doing and the other nine children? Ha! You guys need to get on the ball with some updates.

I bought a large bundle of 4" and 6" treated wood in varying lengths. I just don't know for sure how wide they should be. What kind of wood did you use for them? Was it treated? Did it shrink much?

My cousin and I did some sample cuts today. I think it would not be recommended to cut them until I'm ready to put them on. I think they will warp if they are not attached right away. Maybe it's because they are treated? Did you have any of these concerns or am I paranoid?

Felt so good to get back to the cabin and take Noelle to see where she will be spending many of her future weekends. We didn't do a whole lot but Mr. Troll framed up the wall at the top of the stairs in the loft, hung our bear sculpture and plowed the little snow we had.

I noticed on the original foundation pics the piers are buried in the ground. Are they sitting concrete footers? And what did u coat the piers in? I see some kind of black coating on them.

Hi Attreadwell and welcome to the forum!

Yes, our piers are sitting on a concrete pad that is reinforced with rebar. The piers themselves are coated with tar I think. I'll check with my husband later tonight. We were not able to bring a concrete truck in so the concrete was bags mixed on site. The piers are foundation grade so they probably don't need coating but it was easy enough to do.

Best of luck to you and enjoy!

Your place looks so comfy and beautiful. I just love your decorating touches. What a talent you have!!!!!! It looks like it should be in a country living magazine. Where on earth did you find that adorable giant bear (with the toque and scarf)?

Hi Hattie! I am anxious to get back up to the cabin...been quite a while!

Thank you for the compliment! My husband and I have had a great time working together on it. We both wanted our cabin to have a much different feel than our home and with the rich logging history in the area, we thought that would be a great theme. Since money is tight and many materials would be re-purposed, the old logging days worked out great!

The bear we bought at a liquidators store. It has since gone out of business, but I'm glad we discovered him and gave him a good home
The togue and scarf I picked up at a Goodwill store. We like to dress him up and have fun with him-makes him not so scary for the little kids.

I have been busy working on some projects for Noelle's nursery walls. That Pinterest sparks one little idea and then my thoughts morph it into what I need. What a great site...I always said that when our cabin got done, it would be time to redo parts of our house. I've been busily pinning lots of inspiration ideas-simple little changes, just to spruce the place up a bit

Hope you are having a great St. Paddy's Day! Enjoy your traditional corned beef meal if you made it this year!

Thanks! It has been a ton of work, but fun this past weekend my husband got the loft railing done. No more green snow fencing needed to keep the grandkids safe! I'll post pics when I get the chance. I'm excited to see it in person.

Here are a few photos of the railing.

My husband was trying to work so fast and was so happy it finally fit in the groove, that he inadvertently got the "trout" panel installed upside down! oops. We will have to flip it next time.

We want to also thank Dave (SustainUsFarms) for the cute little booties he knit and felted for Noelle They keep her feet toasty warm! THANK YOU, DAVE!

Hello Me. and Mrs. Troll....

Haven't spoke to you guys lately. Your daughter is getting soooo big and a beautiful little baby. I see your cabin is coming along great. It looks very warm and cozy inside. You should both be very proud of your accomplishments It sure looks nice.

The land is being ripped apart around us by the coal company which is "continuous mining." They have a seam of coal about 5-6 feet thick in the same highwall that wraps around all the hills in our parts (at the same evelation). They are about 150 feet away from our southern property line the last time we were there (last week-end). I have to keep an eyeball on them. They offered us a "paltry sum of money" about two years ago to lease three of our acres because they know it has that vein of coal in it and when I found out it was right smack dab where the cabin is, I politely told them to get lost. But...that doesn't mean we won't have to look at a barren highwall to the left and right of our property lines (we own about 1/4 mile of the highwall ) so hopefully in the summer we won't see too much excavating from the cabin location. Old Buddy says he doesn't know what he'll enjoy more: The sound of the bulldozer tracks backing up or the smell of diesel fuel

Wish us luck on this. As long as they stay off our property I guess that's all we can hope for. We're going to put steel posts in the ground (cemented) with a locked chain at each side of our property lines...just to keep the honest coal-mining employees...honest. We realize they can walk right to our cabin but at least they'll have to walk and won't be able to drive (even on a four-wheeler). If I find evidence that they are tresspassing......we may have to take care of that ourselves.

Happy Easter OOB! Hope you and your family are having a wonderful day!
I'll touch base with you when I get more time, but you keep an eye on those miners and where their equipment goes. It would make me a bit nervous. Will you be able to benefit from any of the trail ways they make?
