We purchased a lot with a cabin on it. The cabin is unfinished and we got a great deal. I’m looking for help with a few things.
1. Best heat/ac system for a 670sq ft cabin. I’m leaning towards a central ducted split system. We have a nice crawl space and plenty of room for it.
2. I want to redo the siding. Hopefully I can post pics. It currently has a 12” or so board nailed up vertically. kind of like board and button without the batton. I am going to fix this but will look for advice.

I guess the boards aren’t 12”. Probably 8”. Should I pull them off add more house wrap (I know the corners are exposed). Or should I just put batton over the seams? IMG_5807.jpeg

Crawl space is roughly 6’ tall. Room for air handler and ducting for my heat/ac. Also considering adding a pellet stove.

It looks like one big room.
Why not just mini splits without ducting? We have a mini split in our 16X28 in Northern Alberta. We have used it down to -20C (0F) and its capable of keeping the cabin at a comfortable temperature. We use fans to move air around into the back bedroom and down from the loft.
However, its more of a novelty for heating. We have unlimited wood so we opt for wood most of the time so we don't have to run a generator.
In summer its an absolute lifesaver. We run it off our solar and it easily keeps our cabin at 20C when its +35 outside.
Now with all that said... INSULATION is key. Our cabin is very well insulated and sealed. That is how a relatively small mini split can keep a cabin of that size warm and cool. Of course you can always just throw energy at the problem instead of insulation.

P.S. Your cabin looks like an absolute perfect location for a nice solar setup!

I would do mini split too. There so cheap and you can put one in your self. Have you priced out having a traditional furnace put in. I know there no cheap and neither is the duct work. There also no as efficient as a mini split.

I fully agree that the days of throwing money at energy doesn't make as much sense as weathertight and insulation, especially at the stage you are at. That is a nice size! You can actually work on one corner while living in the rest

Mini-split's the way to go.
How do you know the corners aren't covered in house wrap? It'd be very odd not to have the corners wrapped, plus house wrap is typically between the exterior siding and sheeting, so it'd be difficult to tell if house wrap was missing from a certain part of the house.
I'd batton the vertical seams if you're willing to put the effort and $ into it. And as gcrank1 pointed out, insulate the inside as best as possible. The extra $ and effort in insulation will pay off in the long-run.....
