Hi all, I live in Australia, just purchased land out west. Emus, roos etc. I haven't started to build a cabin as yet, but have started with an outhouse and open area shower (warm here) We generally sleep in a swag near the fire or in a tent.
I have started a bit of a blog on my website then discovered this one, I will try and give updates and pics as i go. Some great ideas on this site.!

welcome Laurence, nice looking area, do those emus taste like chicken? and do roos taste like rabbit? just kidding, and if possible post a link to your site, also is a swag the same as what we call a hammock? I'm trying to learn aussi in case I get to go there someday

welcome to the forum..........we grilled a emu at my deer camp one time, Not good on hickory wood smoke...........may---be it was my cooking....LOL

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.
In reply to caveman, Emu is actually a red meat and tastes a lot like a very lean beef and you would cook it in all the various ways you would beef. Roo is another red meat very strong. I don't like roo meat and a swag is not a hammock but a water proof canvas type sleeping bag with a thin mattress inside. (bed roll?)

Although it is a bit dry it is not arid like a desert. It is what we call scrub. The land is pretty well dead flat for miles and miles. A lot of acacia trees and pines with a few gums. Most of the ground is spear grass (hard to get out of your socks).

Glad to have you here. We had spear grass down in Texas. When I was a kid, it was a source of amusement....grab 'em by the tail and throw 'em at each other. They stick in teeshirts as well as socks.
What is your water source?

Hi martain, That isn't our spear grass, that is what we call "farmers friends" they are fun and leave little black things in your socks.
The spear grass i am referring too sticks in your socks as well but hurts, you get tiny scratches and holes in your skin. You throw your socks away as it usually ruins them and are too hard to get out. Looks like tall straw type grass with a little spear on top that stick to cattle, sheep and humans
