Last year I put 600 walleyes and 300 Crappies into the pond so should be good fishing there soon. Plenty of bait fish there so hopefully they survived . Havent tryed fishing yet, Heres a better photo of small lake /pond. This was an old Gravel pit last

Stuart Feaver - Beautiful place. I agree with turkeyhunter on his suggestions for the porch. I love that you have stocked the pond! Keep the photos coming.

Heres a photo from down near pond, still trying to decide on a porch,a screened in porch is a good Idea but I have cut all the long Grass nearby and there isnt any bugs, my Idea was to have a shed roof come out from that line you can see and come out six feet then would have somewhere for boots and a little firewood etc, plus a little shade in the summer.Any other Ideas welcome,

My cabin is also in Minnesota (Iron Range area). I built a 12x24 deck on it last year and there's no way I'd ever put a roof or screen on it. I built it to enjoy the outdoors. God knows we don't get that many days in the year to sit out and enjoy the sun, and mosquitos - not enough to worry about in my book. A little Cutters repellant if needed (I hate all repellants) but otherwise enjoy summer for what it is. Put a roof on and screen it in and you might as well just build a bigger cabin with big windows and screens. Just my opinion.

Quoting: Stuart Feaver would have somewhere for boots and a little firewood etc, plus a little shade in the summer. I agree, it is very nice to have the benefits of all the above and I don't think you could go wrong with at least a roof over your decking. We are in northern Wisconsin...where the skeeters are almost as large as in Minnesota:) and we LOVE our screen porch!!!
I really love your interior walls-very warm and cozy!

I have a buddy who built a deck on the back of his house to have a place to do his grilling and enjoy the outdoors. Because of the bugs, his wife convinced him to put on a roof and screen it in. He built a knee wall and screened it to the roof. He built panels to insert into the screen openings for the winter to keep out the snow and protect the carpet and furniture his wife put in. In the cold months it was unheated and dark so his wife started to use it for "overflow treasures". Now it's full and has turned into an attached storage space. He's talking about building a deck but now doesn't have the space for what he wants.
I have a 12x24 open deck on the back of my house. There are verrrrrry few times when the bugs force us off it (it's elevated over a walk out basement and that may have something to do with it), but there are many, many times when I sit out there and enjoy coffee in the morning or a cold one in the evening while I enjoy an unobstructed view of wildlife, my grandkids playing baseball, or the storm clouds brewing.
Different strokes for different folks I guess. I think I'll go out there right now and have my morning coffee while I get a little sun.

I agree,it is a shame that your buddy's screened porch became a storage room.
Maybe the skeeters just don't like you :) They seem to love me :( and the deer flies...

Very nice! What did you use for external siding, and is there anything between that and the studs?

Very nice-I bet your enjoying the porch already! I love the way your cabin sits up on the little hill overlooking the pond. It looks very private. How far is your closest neighbor?

I used that T1.11 and just nailed it straight onto the studs, I painted it with that Thompsons water seal and it seems to be good, may have to paint it in a year or so I will have to see. Insulation; I put plastic on the walls in the inside then Marine plywood on 3 walls and tounge and groove on the one wall looking out .Thats about it.
