I bought this cabin 2 years ago from a divorce situation sight unseen. I bought it for I think a pretty reasonable price and I immediately put it back on the market to see if I could turn a little profit. I gave it one year, and if it didn't sell I would run with it and turn it into a learning experience. Well it didn't sell so I started to have it finished. Due to logistics, (I live in Utah) I had to have it done for me and I think I have found a good and reputable contractor that is doing the finish work.

So far I've had the inside of the lot (0.26 acre) cleared to make it accessible. I had a driveway cut in and basically the middle of the lot opened up. I also had a "floating" foundation poured and had the cabin turned 90* clockwise and moved back 26' towards the back of the lot. Re-roofed with 5 tab contractors shingles. Had the front wall moved out leaving a 12" overhang. Floor was cut out, sealed from the inside, insulated, and new floor sheeting installed. There was only one opening window on the back of the cabin, so I had another window installed on the from for some cross ventilation. Sided with rough sawn spruce siding, and the last thing for the exterior is a deck the full width of the front (16') and 8' out.

*edit* I guess I'm not very good at "attachments". I hope using image code is okay.

Thanks!!!

The kind of downside to this cabin is the guy who built it basically built a deck out of 2"x6"s and covered it with osb plywood. The front deck portion in front of the door and the outside end walls were also osb plywood, exposed to the elements. I figured either finish it right, or it'll rot before too long. I also had a third 6"x8" beam put in the middle so over the years my cabin wouldn't become like a sway back horse.

Nothing really to show off inside as it's not finished yet. Not really sure how I'm going to design the finished interior. I know the end walls will be a sanded plywood and the sloped walls/ceiling is going to be 1"x6" tongue and groove. Room permitting it'll have a sleeping loft for the kids, queen size bed for the wife and I, sitting area, and a kitchen counter/cooking area probably on the wall with the new front window.

I'll be there next month so I'm going to get lots more pics from different angles/spots on the lot.

One more thing, this cabin is located in Sterling, AK. pretty much right at the confluence of the Moose River and the Kenai River.

Great little cabin. Definitely looks like a wonderful place to come up for fishing and hunting.

You might want to consider adding a few more blocks under the skids to get it just a little higher above snow/ground level. The added height will definitely help preserve any new decks you decide to put on and also help keep the carpenter ants to a minimum if you can keep the sill beams up out of the slush and mud during breakup.

And you'd be surprised how long exterior-grade OSB & plywood can last untreated up here... there's cabins all around us that have been standing for 5+ years waiting for proper siding -- LOL. Although, down in Kenai you're a bit warmer and rainier than I am here in the Interior, as long as the ants don't get to it, and you don't get any major long-term wetting, it's usually a little cold up here for rapid decay to set in like it does down south. Biggest problem is continual freeze-thaw in a poorly insulated heated cabin used in the winter... but most hunting/fishing cabins aren't used year-round so it's not usually a problem.

What is the "floating" foundation? Concrete pads and runners?
It's looking good. Love the look of A frames.

Thanks for the nice comments. Don't have exact dimension yet. Will be leaving on the 25th and I'm moving a car and some personal belongings up there then will fly home.

Pretty much finished. (I'm sure there's something else I can have done)

Small building to left is 6'x6' outhouse/storage shed completely finished inside with painted plywood paneling and shelving. Outhouse pit is vented to the outside. A 10'x16' carport for the Jeep I keep up there, and of course my little cabin.

Cabin is finished inside with 1"x6" knotty pine t&g. Carpeting and linoleum on the floors. Completely wired and powered by a Honda EU3000iS generator. Plumbed for propane heat and a Norcold 3 cu/ft gas absorption refrigerator/freezer. I had the awkwardly huge 5'x5' back window removed and replaced with a repositioned 3'x5' window which allowed for a small kids sleeping loft to be built.

Full size boxspring and mattress. Somewhat roughing it, but it's nice to sleep in a real bed with sheets and pillows.

Small loveseat/single sofa bed.

Small kitchen area. I plan on doing most cooking outside with a gas grill with side burner.

Sleeping loft with full size mattress. Perfect for the kids.

Very small but functional. It's up to Alaskan resident standards to be lived in year round. The a-frame would not have been my building choice, but like I said, it was already built , and the price was right.

Nice place! How long did it take you to do the t&g on the interior? Was the inside insulated when you acquired it, or did you do that as well?

Welcome to Alaska ! The
Kenai Peninsula is a beautiful place. And to be near on of the premiere fishing rivers in the world is great.
I hope you get to spend lots of time with your family there. And you like salmon and seeing moose.

Hello Rick. Hopefully he figured it out. Guess I should look at dates. Can you get to your cabin?
