Made up a skid Pan to keep logs from gouging/digging ruts. Used a Traeger grill lid, some bolts, and old trailer safety chains.

Nice! I like the hammer cleat.... I usually just wrap a chain around and pull. That or the winch cable. My winch cable is hear toast so not being too careful with it of late. That hammer cleat looks like the ticket! Might have to make one of those!
We've been pretty lucky so far this year getting firewood. All but 1 tree, so far, we have been able to drop right on the FS road making the work a little easier.... other than having to then clear the limbs off the road and scatter them in the forest. Cutting spruce so LOTS of limbs. We cut in lengths just the right size for the pickup bed, 5 x 15" in each, then cut and split at the cabin. Only stopped a total of 4 rigs while we scooted the tree off the road so they could get by.... one a FS rig and he didn't say nothing, or check our permit. About 2-3 more loads and this/half of next year's wood taken care of.

All my attempts at this usually resulted in the log rolling upside down somewhere along the line. Then the skid was on top and not doing any good. Since I was often on the sketchy edge of what an ATV could pull, I usually had the throttle mashed.
One time the log flipped and then caught a root and brought the whole shebang to an instant stop. I slammed into the handle bars so hard that it knocked the breath out of me. So, there I was, by myself at a remote cabin rolling around in the brush desperately trying to breath. The air came in eventually and I didn't die, but boy, did that hurt.
