There is a thread started that asks where your land is at and to post a picture of land or cabin.
That is great you have some land to enjoy and good luck
I also have right at 65 and mine is also very rugged country.

55 acres in the Catskills: but on the side of a mountain with lots of ledges. Backs up to the State Forest so nothing for a long ways in that direction. 3 waterfalls, views to the east as far as the eye can see.

5 acres w/a view of Mt. McKinley and a creek in front. About a half million acres of state land off to the west between us and the Alaska Range, which breeds mosquitos quite nicely this time of year, but makes for ski/snow machine heaven.

The shack's on 30 acres that joins about 1200 acres of nearly unused national forest. It's half a mile back a rough lane off the black top road, and when you get there you're half a mile or more from any other roads. We carried each cabin part about 200' back into the woods. I mow about 1.5 acres twice a year or so and try to keep a fire area, the lane, and a couple of paths open. We also have about 140 that includes an Indian signal mound that must have a 15-20 mile view (rare in Ohio) without a building in sight. And about 120 with that creek I always wanted to play in as a (younger) kid. Call me nuts but I prefer dirt to the stock market. We feel very blessed.

We are up to 400 acres (162 ha for my fellow canucks) in central SK now. -140 acres (57 ha) of relatively natural bush comprised mostly of trembling aspen, balsam poplar and hazelnut -130 acres (53 ha) of alfalfa/hay and unused pasture -lots of wetlands including one that covers 110 acres (45 ha) -there are also two temporary streams and a number of hillside water seeps -and one abandoned farm yard/house
Not as pretty or majestic as many of the properties here with mountain/ocean/lake vistas or waterfalls and streams but it will do. Overall a nice mix of habitats.

There is only 25 acres but fortunately, it is surrounded by Ohio State forest so with a land locked cabin site deep in the 25, it certainly seems much larger.

I do agree with you and it's like it is all ours. My son owns some land that boarders State land and it is a good fit for him.

Only one acre. Back perimeter borders 2300 acres. my way of not giving New York anymore money than I have to. Taxes are goofy in this state. Took me 3 years to find something that bordered state land.

I thought I had posted here...
We have 25 acres where our A-frame is, backed up to hundreds of thousands is USFS land. Our other cabin that is for sale is ~13 acres backed up to more USFS land, but less of it. At home we have a 40 acre hobby farm about 50 miles NW of the Mpls area. I always thought it would be cool to have a hundred acres total, but I am over that at this point, and would settle for just our 25 and be good with that and about another 5 to live on in west central Idaho.

11.5 acres on a hill top in central Texas, with a 20 mile view to the west overlooking a valley. The property is populated with Mountain cedar and Live Oak, with a few Texas Red Oaks and Cedar Elms as well as a lot of rock. Just finished fencing the boundary and am now planning to begin construction on a 24x32 cabin.
Have electricity already installed but no water access yet. Been hauling water for now, but planning to harvest rainwater once cabin is built. Can't afford to drill a well, water is at least 600ft deep, cost would be >$20K.

Trout Camp is located within the Allegheny National Forest so when we are asked this question our reply has always been the stretched truth...We have 1.2 acres of frontage and 550,000 acres that will never be built upon! LOL!

I am 20 acres, planning to build this spring a small cabin there. Most of the land has been cleared 5 years ago so it allowed me a good pricing when i purchased. I paid 15 000$ here in Quebec for this land. My neighbor lot is for sale, 60 more acres which is pretty interesting too... but the money is short a little bit for now so I'll wait and see.
Just curious, how much did you guys pay for your land and how high are the taxes?

We have Turkeys, White tail deer, Axis deer, Aoudads, Mouflon Sheep, Barbados sheep, hogs, dove.. all seen on the trail cams each month.
I HEAR there are red stag out here too.. but only seen one at the processor in town.
I have shot an Axis and seen Aoudads, as well as the standard deer and turkeys.

I am in SK. Our land is not in the resort area(s) so it is much cheaper.
Our first bit of land (240 acres) we bought in 2009 we paid ~$300/acre for what they called recreational land bush and sloughs ie hunting, atv and snowmobile etc. In 2011 we bought the 160 acres adjacent to it we paid ~$400/acre. It was mostly hay land with a derelict 25 acre farm yard zero value buildings on it. Total taxes are about $500.
We have been watching any land sales in our area that are similar and there is a 10 acre derelict yard site with power, and zero value buildings, surrounded by cropland that the asking price is $30K for just the yard site. We also saw a 159 acre plot, mostly hay and bush, with liveable 700 sq ft house and outbuildings go for $94k.
