Hi all,
Sorry for the long thread title, but I couldn't really think of a way to shorten it up.
I know many of us may not be comfortable sharing (and I appreciate that and hope this thread doesn't offend you) so please feel free to refrain.
I thought this would be an interesting collection. Let's try to keep our responses succinct and to the point. I'll post a follow-up with my own information.

Grandpa's old homestead. 120 acres with another 80 acres that 's my sister's. I think he paid $80. It's been 98 years now. 1960 my Dad and I , a young lad, planted it into pines, 220,000. They are 85 to 90' tall and 12 to 20'' diameter now. I dug ponds and built cabins, tore down old cabins, built a bridge. From hay fields to forest. From work to recreation. The times have changed.

2005, 75 acres shared with my sister, as it was inherited. Our folks enjoyed it together, planting many spruce trees, blueberry bushes, building a pole barn, etc. We are fortunate to have been left with such a beautiful place. There is about 50 acres of nice timber that will be ready to harvest in the next 3-5 yrs. as they managed it well. I plan to do what my folks, unfortunately, did not live to do...build a small place and live there. I love that place.

Bought in 2010- 32.5 acres in central Montana- 8 miles from a ski area and 450 ft. of fishable creek frontage...way too much money. But it did already have a bridge, road and excavated build site.

hard to answer Q. We "own" 77 acres we bought in April of 2011 but we manage 330 acres, since my wife's uncle found out were bought land and bought the adjoining acres around us and never goes out there.
So, we do nto 'own' them.. but we treat them as ours.
We paid about $80,000 for the 77 acres, and less per acre for the other land.

Wow.. almost makes me wish I lived in Canada....all except for that COLD stuff you call.. (what is it?.. oh yea..) SNOW.. heh
I doubt I would care to own more than 400 acres as it is hard enough to manage.. but it sure is nice being able to walk around and not cross someone's boreder.

We bought 3 acres about 80km north of Ottawa Ontario , on the Quebec side in Kazabazua . We have deeded lake access on a small lake and about 30 lakes in a 20 km radius . There is a excellent trout creek about a 10 minute walk from us . There may not be hydro lines back there for at least 10 years which suits me fine ! We paid 11,900$ and the guy I purchased from financed it himself so I pay him bi-weekly !!

When the High Park ranch was broken up in Colorado south of Pikes Peak ( north of Canyon City) my dad bought 35 acres. After my mom died he sold it to me for 30K in 1999.
A year later my neighbor was forced to sell his 35 acres ( his wife made him after he had built by himself a small house on it )
I bought it for 85,000.
They both back to BLM.
The 1st 35 acres I got under market value and the 2nd 35 acres I probably overpaid.
I am thinking of selling the 1st 35 acres because I haven't stayed over there for years and could use the money to fix up the cabin on the 2nd 35 acres.

We just bought our 10 acres last month in southern MO. We looked for over a year and finally found almost exactly what we were wanting.
Privacy, an awesome view and no restrictions/permits needed were the primary things we were after. We got them all.
27k was a little more than we wanted to pay but it was hard to find anything close to what we wanted for less. It is tough when you have champagne tastes and a beer budget. haha
We are moving out there at the end of the month and living in our RV while we start the build on our house. Hope to be in the house by this Summer.

We bought off my uncle in 2009 so he gave us a good deal. We have 11 acres in eastern Ontario an hour north of Napanee. We paid $63000 which has 1000 feet of river frontage and that included the log cabin and all the contents, including the Honda 3000 watt generator, hand tools he used to make the place, chainsaw, etc and all the old antiques he collected over the years!

I bought just over nine acres in mid-Maine. 2010 I paid $8100.00. By late 2010 we had cleared a path into the lot and cleared a spot for the camper. In 2011, cleared a little more, improved the driveway, and built a nice storage/wood shed. 2012 we started our cabin!!!! By mid November snow and cold stopped our work. 12X24 shell is complete, with metal roof. We'll be back at it in the spring
