Well, I sold some land about a week ago to a contractor that was looking and just couldn't find anything. He wanted to biuld a shop and put a few trailers on it for his help. It was an irrigated small farm which I grew attached to over the 20 years I had it. There was a lot of blood, sweat and tears went in to this land. A lot of good times and hard work which really makes it hard to part with that dirt. It really has started to hit me but to late now. The guy that owned a small trucking outfit was on one side of me and he was adding on with more trucks etc. and the place I owned was getting more public and busy with his operation which made my mind up to sell and it was a fast deal. The guy that bought the land I have known for a long time. We went out there kicked the weeds around and I marked the dirt with my boot at all the corners of the property and told him what I wanted. We shook hands and made it simple and easy. Not sure all land deals go like that anymore. There was no title search or all the fancy tactics from the lawyer. I had my attorney set up the buy/sell and in 7 days it was a done deal paid /sealed and delivered. I couldn't go out there anymore with out someone being around there and trucks running so it took all the fun out of it. The sale was worth it because I didn't give it away I can tell you that. I tell you once you own land it is a part of you and is very hard to sell it.

congrats on the sale---- i sold a 44 acres tract about 8 years ago---had big creek frontage, a high hill, i placed a little shed building with bunks--- and built a deck , would set out there and look across a dove field---only owned it 2 year 2 months---bought it to fix up and sale---was a hard thing to do--i was going sell & buy a another tract for re-sale--but never found the right one---at the right price---i made out like a bandit on the sale---but hard to let it go ---i alway look down the driveway where i sold---i remember diggin those 2 fence/gate posts on a friday eve in 100 deg temps--almost killed me!!!! take the $$$ and enjoy your sale!!!!

Chin up dude, the melancholy feel is a true sign that you had great times out there, and the sale means you can put that money to good work finding another place to have more good times.

I read my post over and yes I have a lot to be thankful for. I worked very hard to purchase that small farm and it was nip and tuck through those first years. I had not been married long with a young son and it was a big deal trying to buy & pay for this land. I worked it like there was no tomorrow raising garden produce one dollar at a time. Still doing a full time job that demanded many hours and weekend work being on calll. The land was part of me and I would say I'm not the only one that has attachment to the land they own. The land I own now in the breaks and river front is a blessing and feel so grateful to be able to enjoy it and own it. You do get attached to things and money isn't everything in this world. If I had all the money in the world it wouldn't make me happy. It really doesn't do you any good and for me it doesn't give me enjoyment. The land is something we can enjoy and be a part of. The bad thing in my area land is very very hard to come by and is very expensive. I want o buy another piece but not any easy thing to do around here. I want something close so I can go hang out there and enjoy it at the drop of a hat.
