Quoting: bobrok HA, that's funny. You are indeed a rarity: a CDN who actually drives at the speed limit! 8-oMy experience: You need a NASCAR co-pilot to make it up or down the QEW on a normal day What speed limit?? Bushbunkie - Veteran ontario driver

Quoting: bushbunkie What speed limit?? Bushbunkie - Veteran ontario driver Sorry, I am one of the Yanks driving too slow on the QEW! It just needs some pit crews and pace cars! 400+ miles. 8 hours
QEW/427/401/400/11 then back to the bush.
On the way back in September my brother and I stopped at Webers for a burger, fries, and shake for the first time ever in over 40 years of going to the camp in the bush. My Dad always talked with disdain over the line and "carcinogens from those darn grills!"
We saved our receipts and put them in with the fishing pictures we took after we got them developed. He was baffled at first then had a great laugh!

It's in there, I just had too much ancillary crap.
Door to door just over 400 miles. Peace Bridge is half way. Have made it in 7+hours with minimal traffic, fast customs, and few stops.
Nearest residence is 8 miles. Nearest gas and grocery is a little over an hour.

Quoting: TomChum What are the specifications to your "Labor of Love"? Please post some details about how much "trouble" it takes to get to your cabin. From my door to the new cabin site is 2 hours 50 minutes (138 miles). 4 miles from the cabin to the nearest gas station/restaraunt/grocery store, and yes they are all in the same building/entry door, very small town. 16 miles from the cabin to the closest lumber yard and home improvement center.
During "dry" seasons there is just a rocky road going in with a lot of bumps. During the wet seasons, I normally won't go up because roads can turn into a nasty soupy clay mess in an hour or so. I've been stuck once and had to use a "come along" attached to a 50' rope attached to the closest tree to help pull out my suburban. In the rain it was horrible. I was a muddy mess. Naturally, the rain stopped shortly after I fell sideways into the mud while trying to get my shoe unstuck from the mud. I still know the general area of where my shoe is "burried".
Getting in to the area isn't too bad. There is such a massive mental brick wall that I can see that is miles tall right before I have to leave. Leaving for the work week is the trouble.

Five hours from Home to the cabin (worth every minute of the trip)
5 minutes to the local Country Store (decent selection and moderate prices)
30 minutes to a real grocery store or Lowes (I try to have everything that we need to minimize these trips - they take away from the "being away from it all" mind set.)

A sweet two hours in summer - two and a half winter - can't take the high dirt road for the snow.

Where I want to build mine is about 300km so about 3.5 - 4 hours. The last stretch mine send it upto 5 hours because I mite have to limit my speed to 40km/hr on the dirt roads(my cars suspension is kinda worn out)
If I cant get that property i'm looking at I will have to do with a 8- 9 hour drive to the Timmins area(Anything below north bay with in 3-4 hours of Toronto is over priced:()

350 miles takes 12 hours due to a border crossing, and a 1hr 45 min ferry ride. I drive a semi for a living. I'm a million mile safe driver.Speed kills. Drive fast and you might not make it to your piece of heaven on earth.

Great thread!
Our cabin is 2.5 hrs from home, door-to-door (180 miles.)
We are .5 mile from "town" but the town consists of one bar and a little convenience store. We're 38 miles from cell service and gas, and 50 miles from a real city with big box stores, hospital, etc.
Most importantly, we're 8 miles from the ski mountain!

About 250Km, 3 hour trip neat with a pit stop in the middle. Nearest town 80km with stores etc (1hr) away. No mobile phone reception until you are in town.Quiet peaceful roads but can only travel during daylight 8am-3pm to avoid the pigs and roos on the road.

We live in Indiana and our cabin is in Labrador. We have owned it for 5 years now and we are getting ready to leave in about 4 weeks. Its takes about 32 hours to drive there and this will be our 3rd trip driving and will be our last driving trip for a while. We have been taking thing we need for the cabin and should all be done this trip. Once we get to the dock its a 40 minute boat trip to the cabin but it is all worth it and by the Grace of God one day well go and never come back! LORDS WILLING..................................oH ITS ABOUT 1700 MILES FROM OUR HOUSE

550 miles one way from DFW area of TX to my place in far SW Texas...not too far from Big Bend National Park and Terlingua, TX.
Takes 8 hrs, if you're not pulling a trailer, and stop for gas and pouring out water only....no dawdling around.
