I'm having trouble with wasps inside the cabin. What is the best product to spray on the exterior of the camp to keep them out? Also, do they make smoke bombs for wasps that can be released indoors?

I had wasps in my green house. I sprayed the nest with water and peppermint essential oil mix (I did this on a cool cloudy day when they were almost inactive). I had to do this 2 times but they left. I then hung a peppermint and a spearmint plant up in the area and they haven't come back and its been about 3 seasons now.

There used to be "Bug Bombs" that you could set in a house that would pretty much gas anything in there... of course people, pets etc out, as well as food stuffs etc... I'm not sure if they are available anymore, you would have to look around local businesses that sell such products. Here they can be used but only if it's an Exterminator doing it.

You really should find the nest and attack that in the cool of the morning or evening when they are all back. If they are getting in the house, then how? Are they in the wall?
I'm not a big fan of any bug bomb that works. That much indiscriminate insecticide in a living space doesn't work for me. If you can target a specific area that's better.

Wasps can be quite vicious. I got attacked once cutting down dead tree. It wasn't obvious there was a nest in trunk. Got whacked about twenty times.

This place is generally pretty good for advice and products but I'm sure there's others.

I grew up living in the country. We didn't have access to commercial wasp spray. My dad would shoot the nests with ether (starting fluid) and my mom would use hairspray if the nest was inside the house or in the screen porch.

Did you have to get all of the wasps to have this work?.... kind freeze them where they are type deal? Or did they not like the smell/texture/ etc?

This is what we make every year. Works like a charm. All you need is a pop bottle and some apple juice. http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Wasp-Trap

Before we leave for home I spray the cabin with a peppermint oil, water and dish soap mix plus a little Ortho Home Defence for good measure. Never seen a mouse or wasp in 3 years. A few dead spiders and moths but that's about it.

I use the same wasp trap as Hattie. I have bee hives so they are attracted. They also prey on a weak hive of bees, they will kill and carry out the bee larva. Rather than cutting the top off the jug. I cut a couple of small v shaped holes near the top on the sides. Used a 2 liter juice bottle baited with , some pop or beer . They recommend a bit of dish soap , to coat their wings. The bees didn't seem interested, just wasps. Intend to put a couple near bee hives. Amazing how many you catch. I wouldn't clean out traps too often , as the smell will likely attract more. Some will figure the way out, so I turned the trap often to catch the smart ones. Lots of examples on u tube.
Good luck trapping. old243

permethrin purchase at your local farm supply, mix in sprayer - keeps wasp and all other insects away for 6 weeks to two months, depending on rainfall amount. Respray as needed. One of two or three know products for carpenter bees. You can purchase in 10% or 33 % solutions for around $10-20 in pints, etc. I keep quart spray bottles with a mix sitting around in the summer to spray "hot spots" and try to do outside of whole house and cabin every two months. If I am going to be gone from the cabin or my residence for several days, the inside floors around the doors and baseboards get a treatment.

You can use traps to catch them, One can also use Peppermint oil to get rid of them. As wasps do not like spices, you can spray some chili-based spray also to get rid of them.

Wasps infestations can become quite a serious concern if they happen to be in a residential area. Making a wasp trap can also help deal with wasps. Take a milk jug without the lid and fill it up with water and a sugary substance along with some dish soap. Wasps are very attracted to sweet things. When they get inside the jug to test out the sweetness they can get it on their wings and have a difficult time climbing out. What's good about the milk jug is that it can be hung from trees if need be to be closer to the nest.
