Quoting: silverwaterlady Beautiful Gary O. thanks, slylady I'm usually never whimsical at anything can't but these seemed to come together
I'm not unhappy with 'em
and, as mentioned, they're just from cheap fence boards and shakes they can be glued, or screwed, or stapled

My son gave me some round cutoffs, from porch columns. They are laminated pine, about 6 inch diameter, have the inside hollowed out. I cut them in 6inch pieces, put an 1 1/2 inch entrance hole. added a removable hexagonal base and a slightly sloped roof. put a staple in roof to hang from a limb. Have enough material to make about 15 houses. Going to be lots of happy birds in our neighbourhood. Sorry I haven't figured out how to post pictures. old243

Hey I saw some a bunch of recessed lighting boxes for $5-10 each. Thought, hey maybe they could become birdhouses to stick up along our trails through the bush. Metal should last for many decades.
Maybe add a piece of tin on the roof and a smaller entry hole.
Your thoughts? Do birds need wood for nighttime heat retention vs conductive metals?

Great examples of turning old crap into something useful (aka upcycling, repurposing, relieving cabin fever…)

About 2 wks ago I cleaned out our bluebird houses, one had a previously unknown wasp nest beneath the floor board in a little alcove. So I had been wondering what to do.....there it is in your link!
