November- Think we will get a lot of snow this winter
December- Nothing yet but it's coming
January- It's right around the corner
February- Oh well, I didn't really want to deal with it anyway.
March- WHY NOW !!!!!!

In our area there are a couple of old sayings, remember my dad and grandmother saying.

The north wind shall blow and we will have snow

March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a Lamb

Right now out here in sunny California it is indeed sunny and warm. Just a few weeks ago we were having record rainfall and flooding. Hope March stays nice, but it's never certain.

The heaviest snowfall ever in Syracuse, NY was in March.

My wife told me last fall that, according to 'friends who know these things" winter won't happen until March or so.
I think Farmers Almanac may have concurred with this.

...and here we are.

In SC, we've experienced the mildest winter I can ever recall ... balmy 70's and 80's. Normally, we get in the "teens" in Jan/Feb. For some of us Southerners, that's cold.

Last week, as we lounged around in shorts and short-sleeve shirts, sipping ice tea, along comes this funny weatherman telling us to prepare for ... yep, snow! It's hard to take that kind of prediction seriously when the sun is beaming down and the flowers are blooming. But, lo and behold if he wasn't right!

Of course, most of our Northern, Western, and Canadian counterparts would laugh themselves silly at how much joy we get over a few hours of snowfall! However, I'm not the least bit ashamed to admit I was rushing as fast as possible from Myrtle Beach to get Upstate to see the snow! Crazy, huh?

Yup. We're from the area and know all too well.

The record snowfall was 36.0 inches on March 14, 1993 - 100% more than the national average for snowfall records. Syracuse has had an average annual snowfall of 123.8 inches over the last 30 years, which is 453% more than the national average (22.4 inches).

2 weeks ago it was 68 deg and muddy as hell up at the cabin.
Last Saturday, just a few days ago it was in the single digits and the pond was frozen over (again)....
Now its snowing hard and heavy, the wind is wiping in and a few trees have come down....
I'm guessing there will be snow banks long in to shorts and tee shirt weather..... No worries though, snow and icicles mix up fine margaritas ....

Getting a good old fashion snow day here in Niagara Falls, Ontario. A week ago I was working outside without my coat. Today the dogs don't even want to go outside. Not a huge storm here really though. About 8" on the ground now and still snowing and blowing fairly good.

I got about 18 inches and it seems to be tapering off. I actually went to the cabin to get my tractor with loader yesterday and I am glad I did. My wheel horse couldn't handle it. I thought I would not need it at home as I took it up about 2 weeks ago. One good thing is it is only about 40 minutes to the cabin. I will probably take the tractor back up tomorrow and plow my cabin out. Probably 20 or so inches there at the base of the Tuscorora.

Oh for sure, born and raised there.

I think I remember your cabin being out by Port Royal? If so I was just out that way last week. With the weather being so mild this winter, well until now, we just completed a 20x30 deck out in Millerstown. Nice areas out that way. Haven't been that way in a long time, went to the track a few times years and years ago

Cabin snow update, looks like we'll be testing the structural integrity. Most snow ever on it..
Winter, go away, I got things to do!

Yes , if you were in Millerstown you were getting close. They actually had a bug night for sprints and such last Thursday night and were supposed to race Saturday the 11th. Think that might be on hold for a while. Although we did not get as much in Port Royal as at home. My camp neighbor thought they had around 12 inches. Plan to head there Friday and plow.
