I posted a picture of our camper under the "Break ins/Cabin Security" thread and my last post there was about a bear breaking into our shed. We keep our placer mining supplies in the shed and for some reason Mr. Bear thinks he should get into it. There is absolutely no food or even any scent that could be construed as food in the shed. Well the first break in was kind of funny...haha....now he's broken into it again and we aren't laughing anymore. grrrrrr.....The shed is one of those plastic rubbermaid things and it has worked great for the last few years. When the bear breaks in, he just rips off the side wall. We can pop it back into place, but obviously he will eventually do it enough times that it will be permanently broken. Does anyone have any ideas how to keep the bear out? We don't want to build a new shed and because this is all on our placer claim, anything we put in there must be easily removed because it is Crown land. HELP!!!! Your suggestions would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Hi Avan: No...They were laundry soap pails and have been in the shed for a few years. My hubby said the only thing he did differently was put a ball of rope in there. He said that the rope did smell strange so he took it out of the shed and hung it on a tree. Next time we are in the camp we will see if the bear ripped down the rope instead of the bothering the shed. That is the only thing we have done differently in the last few years.

As he brake down the false hornet nest associating it with a real one, he maybe find food in another shed in an other camp. Maybe you should find a metal one or an heavy dutty one made with wood. you can also try an intrusion alarm with one movement detector and blasting sound. Pepper in small container around your shed. One thing is sure, he know your place, he know he can find food and it is not afraid, in the last, you maybe have to kill him or if your place are not illegal, contact your local conservation officer for a relocalisation of the bear.
