Man has it been a cold one. This deep freeze is wide spread and hope it starts warming up soon. Stay save and throw another log on the fire. LOL

Being in the upstate of NY we haven't felt the brunt of this yet. Cold but no snow. That'll change. Trust me.

Same here in eastern Ontario. Still early, have a feeling we're going to get hit hard this year...

I'm thinking about getting some sort of winter track machine myself. I would like a side/side with tracks but not sure I can justify that kind of money. I wish there was a small machine on the market that would support a small track machine.

46 sounds great. It's so cold right now the dog won't even go outside, she waits until she can't hold it anymore, runs out there, goes to the bathroom, and then limps back inside because her paws are so cold.

Warmed up to -18°C here this morning! Hopefully the wind lets up a later so I can take the kids on the candlelight ski tonight. Much better than the -38 it got down to in the last couple of days. I was on a house fire the night before before last (I am a volunteer firefighter) at 2am at -36°C. The hoses don't stay thawed for long once you aren't flowing lots of water.

My hat goes off to you being a fire fighter isn't an easy job and a job people take for granted. Thanks

Our call volume is low and it is a lot of fun, lots to learn and an all round good experience.

It is especially rewarding when we are able to save somebodies house (or life).... I encourage anybody capable and able to consider volunteering as well. Most departments can use a hand.

Yep I grew up in a very small community and I mean everyone is involved in the fire dept. It takes every body to make these small towns to survive. Thanks again for what you do.

turkeyhunter yep that is pretty cold for your neck of the woods for sure. I hope it works out for you to head up north that would be fun. You need to go up there when the moose start droping head gear.

Here in Central Ky it is a pleasant 32 this morning. We have 1/4+ inches of ice on everything and a wintery mix falling. I sure could have used cleats to walk to chicken house, lol. Coop door froze solid so I had to put their feed and water through wire from top. Everything is beautiful covered in ice but I so want snow. Some tree branches are starting to swag. 8-( This is a time I am thankful for our little canon and being cozy and warm.

It's -7 here this a.m. (20F)

I was making supper with a friend and she'd brought garlic. I chopped into it. "Hey, this is a really thick skin, whoever grew this is in for a cold winter."

She laughed. "It's local organic I picked up at the farmer's market."

Was down at my future home site yesterday on Deer Island - a balmy plus two. Ran a property line and used declination on the compass this time and found that the primo building site is actually well on my lot - an early Christmas present - great spot overlooking the Bay of Fundy - will be seeing lots of whales from by house - the drop is well over 100' although it doesn't look like that in the picture. Cold snap is coming east - overnight lows in the -20s later this week! Good weather to build an outdoor rink!

Same here. Our 3 normally go nuts when you ask if they want to go out. Now one actually hides under the couch.

These single digit temps and -15 wind chills are tough.

that cold snap was great, killed off some of my late season crops earlier than expected and froze up my water supply but I made a fortune selling firewood. soon as it got cold people who knew I had vast amounts of wood started rushing over with handfuls of money and buying up my surplus.
