We have had some trouble with them but this time we took our cat bandy up with us and inside of 30 minutes she went under the cabin and killed one. Bandy-1 woodrat-0

Get some bird seed and sprinkle it on the ground. Then sit under a tree about 50 yards away with a case of beer (sometimes it takes a while) and a .22 rifle. The contest is to see if you can run out of beer before you run out of rats.

We call 'em "pack rats" up here and the best way to get them is to bait a rat trap with tin foil. They really like shiny things (keep your keys with you at all times or they'll steal them). We had them in our outhouse but didn't want to bait a rat trap with food or it would attract the bears. An oldtimer suggested tin foil and it works GREAT! We caught one rat and the rest must have got the message and moved somewhere else. Our oldtimer friend has a Jack Russell dog and he's really good at getting rid of them too. The oldtimer actually keeps a running tally by his woodpile each year of how many he gets. *grin*
