Hey small cabin brothers and sisters, read a post a while back where a member on here was saying nobody needs to pack a gun because Animals will leave you alone. I've never had to use a gun to defend myself in the wild yet, but with how much time I spend in the woods and deserts my chances increase. I'm not saying you need to pack a gun, but this is proof that Animals do cross the line. Meant to post this back in July but have been busy. And there are alot more stories coming from AZ, Coyotes biting people on their front porches, Rabid Cougar charged boy, shot by Uncle, Rabid Bob Cat attacked Golfer, ect ect.

I here you, but I still feel more safe at my cabin. Don't get me wrong I keep a lot of guns around, I like them for wall hangers , target shooting and hunting. I did have a scare this summer with my wife's dog when she went after a bear. I grabbed a gun and would have shot him to save her dog. Thanks goodness I didn't have to. Mostly black bears leave my place this time of year, because they are being baited about a mile east. The wolves have been around too. Neither are much of a thret to humans, but it's possible that you might need a gun.

Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. I never go to my cabin without a "little heat"

I have never seen a bear near our cabin in person. However, we do see a lot of black bear sign. My neighbor got one during hunting season in our driveway a few years ago. We are also in grizzly country. Though rare, they are there. My sons friend stepped in what was CLEARLY griz poo a couple summers ago. This was a couple miles from us and way into the bush. Generally, bears will leave you alone, but what if they don't... Mama and babies, starvation, startling them, whatever the reason, you are at some risk, and it could go very badly. The guy shot it several times with a 9mm, and it ran off. 9mm is a terrible choice. I carry a Tokarev 7.62x25 just in general at the cabin, but I always carry this when we are out bushwhacking or backpacking off public trails. I think it is crazy not to.
