The screech owl are a very tinny bird (for an owl), teh one you show here are the great horned owl. Lucky you are, with chance it can stay there all the winter, even make is nest around in february. My picture marked owl are the screech owl.

Thanks! I don't know the mouse was on the picture until I open it in the computer. I was following (with my camera and my 400mm lens) the owl starting flying from the roof of a barn and he come very close to me to pick up the mouse in the snow.
That's a one time shot in a life, pretty rare.

Thanks! This year, mostly because I built my cabin, bridge, open trail, etc.. I don"t do a lot of photographys, but I always try to do some, it's my passion. But it's tamed down a bit this automn, as my big lens and camera was stolen I my house the last two week. I don't have go to my cabin from the hunting season, just hope I don't have a break in also.

Anonymous , now I'm confused. This thing screeched all night and I looked in my bird book and that is what they called a screech owl. But with that said it looks just like the barn owl we had last year. Heres another picture I thought to be interesting and one of a dear I took outside the cabin window

Hi flatwater, Defenitivly a great horned owl from the picture. The screech owl sound are very low and can be translate like this :hou-hou-hou-hou-hou-hou..... in a long sequence that amplified slowly, that can be souding as a very fast ringing roling sound
The great horned owl are the more common sound associated at owl, It is a very deep : HOU HOU-HOUHOU HOU HOU (usualy 2X).

Lucky with the blue bird, I know we have some around, but I don't see it to date.

We sit at the top of a small mountain , 3500ft. at the bottom of the mountain runs the kettle river. Trees are white and red fir, Tamarack, and a few pine. We have a lot of choke cherry bushes , aspen , some birch and a few Junipers. Large animals would be bear, muley , white tail, and an elk and moose once in awhile. Small animals are Skunk , pack rats, snow shoe hares, cougar, wild cat, blue grouse.

That's one mean looking sheep. Seems like our previous exchange offended someone so I will keep it clean. So flatwater, why is it that a normal guy like you keeps sheep photos on your computer anyway. Inquiring minds want to know. How do you mount that thing, the gun?

Heck it was all in jest but thin skins are hard to battle. I keep hearing people call others sheeples , well this is my type of sheeple. one that the big bad wolfs only attack once. Walk softly but carry a big stick.

Thanks a lot. I'm not a professional, as I don't sale my stuf. I'm what is called an advanced amateur. The secret for wildlife picture are as for the hunting: a good knowledge of the animal. Second, the equipment: for close to all picture I use a DSLR camera (Canon 1D MK3) and a fixed focal lens (a 400mm f5.6 USM). A Dslr is amazingly fast at the shutter, so you can catch the action and an a long focal tele lens get you close to the action.
