One of our local turtles and her nest. Unfortunately, all her nests were in our neighbours driveway, so I’m not sure if they will survive. The third picture is hard to make out, but it's the wolf lying on the ice watching us. 446AFA19C28B4C028.jpeg

My buddy is borrowing my cabin this week. His daughter likes catching bugs, etc. She caught this Massassauga Rattlesnake in a net near my dock. Not something you'd expect to find in south-central Ontario. I forgot to warn him that I've seen one or two. Good thing she didn't get bit!

Witness the great afternoon shade on the lawn and front deck at my camp on the river. ( pic1) Now witness what one afternoons work by old bucky has done to 15 years of cultivation. (Pic 2)

I posted a picture of a doe with her fawn last year. Not sure if this is the same doe, but this one did better - 3 fawns.

I haven't posted pictures before, so we'll see if this works. A few animals we caught on camera recently.

Little doe in the hayfield. This is under 200 yards from my front door. I'm in the garden. Mid day. She don't care much.

It's a miracle if I or my cell phone manage to take a decent photo. And this isn't one. Anyway
Happened to catch an epic struggle between a bee and a green something this morning. They were wreslting around really good! After about a minute the bee managed to break free and fly away. What is the green thing? Grasshopper?

Hmm, good guess Darz, never heard of 'em. First time I've seen one. No cricket noise at night. Thanks!

Moose in NY. In the old forge area of the ADKs. I let this camera out all winter to catch two 5sec videos of this guy.

Don't let anybody tell you Pennsylvania doesn't have ticks! Take a look at this poor doe. All I can figure is she must have slept in a tick nest. The good news is, even just a couple days later, the number seems greatly reduced. And in subsequent pictures, they are gone in their entirety- all with no apparent ill effect on the deer. Holy crap!
| On the road to recovery.
| Closer up- how many beans in the jar... or ticks on the deer?

The fox is back! Thinking it's not the same one that hung around last winter, that one seemed larger. Here are pictures. Unfortunately this year I only have a picture of it laying down. Pretty domesticated, will take a bone right out of your hand.... been hanging around the cabins up here for years. Last winter fox

Owls and Chickens? Tonite. While I was trying to ignore what's on tv. I was looking at the security cams monitor. I just watched one of our resident owls, nail a mouse running across the road to raid the food in the chicken coop. A chicken was roosting on my generator shed about 6 feet away. The chicken barely noticed, and obviously didn't care. Almost every day. We have deer that stand in the driveway and munch on whatever it is their munching on. This afternoon, my dog was next to me when the deer were hanging out. The dog looked at the deer. Then looked at me. I looked at the deer. Then the dog. I asked the dog, "You wanna gettem Daisy?" Somehow, like Dr. Doolittle, I perceived the dog was telling me. " Forget about the deer. Go turn on the tv under the gazebo. Tune into the Animal Planet, and while your not doing anything.....turn on the ceiling fan!" Well my dog enjoyed the cool breeze and watching shark week. Little things sometimes make me really appreciate living in the woods.

Here's a pic of one of our chickens that seems to enjoy being petted with a leftover Halloween skeleton hand. Not really a wildlife photo. More like a Mild Life photo.
