We have had a mama n baby around for a while. We have rabbits . Moose have been after the hay. We moved the hay inside a shed.
Well sometime last night the calf got injured. And is now laying in our yard with a peed off mama near. I called a wildlife trooper. She showed up n the calf stood. Staggered 3 steps n fell . She said maybe just bruised n left. . Our daughter say it from side n saw what she thought broken rear back. Calf stool is runny, to me indicating internal injuries.
The calf did get up when we had a 5.3 earthquake about n hour ago. Only went a couple steps.
Sometimes mother nature happens in your own yard.

Not a good prognosis with a lot of winter left up there 
If it goes bad will the WO let you butcher?

If a dead animal is on your property. It is homeowners responsibility. So I guess so.
Family just kinda bothered that troopers have to let nature happen.
We're ready. We have processed many moose. Will go to feed several families.

Mama looks very healthy. I'd say 3 years or so . Looks pregnent. Life goes on.
I had to shoot a brown bear est 500 pounds 5 years old by biologist a few years back on our back porch. From 3 feet. Defense of life.
Had to cut a full grown bull moose feet out of a wire fence last winter.

The calf n mama rested undisturbed for most of day. Then were able to wander off baby limping. I may try tracking them down when it get light outside.

Yes bush. Had to haul it all out on a freight sled behind a snogo. Took years. Been using it for 4-5 years now. I had to have some body parts replaced n have been sidelined a bit. Driving me bonkers. I haven't been out since moose season last fall. Did get 5 weeks in then.
My beautiful wife even let me buy new 2x6 TnG lumber so I could redeck my trailer. It is a car hauler type trailer n only holds 2 snogos. After redecking the trailer it will hold 4. So I can take more family with me.
And there's a bunch of lynx n wolves out there I'd like to try n trap.
So yes I usually am there more often. Retiring now so more cabin time .
Man I wish I was there now.

Sweet! Congrats on retirement! I just went Feb.1....awesome, now I can focus back on what makes me happy. We are both in a good place! For a retirement present, my beautiful wife gave me this. It's a 2005, but very low mileage and mint condition. Like the mafia, my best buddy "made me an offer I couldn't refuse"...he has three high end atvs and was clearing this one out LOL. Life is good when your wife is in your corner!

I worry a bit about the moose this winter with the super heavy snowfall amounts going two years in a row. The snow is a bit more this winter than last, and last winter killed a few moose around my place. Watched a mom and calf struggling mightily behind us yesterday trying to get something to eat. The calf’s nose was barely above the snow as it followed mom. Fortunately, we are about at the end of the typical heavy snowfall season.

Yes the moose morality rate will be high, again. I was told that a fellow about 50 miles west of us found over a hundred carcasses last spring. They are being taken out by the wolves also. As the deep snow has them exhausted.
