Learned a valuable lesson when snow shoveling or clearing a long driveway. DO NOT keep your set of keys in your jacket pocket! I am sure they are out there somewhere. Lol.
Yesterday I cranked up one of my gennys. It's dual fuel. The temp was 4° F. And actually started on the third pull. And ran fine. 👍
Also smoothed out the road with my redneck pull behind snow plow. It's a regular pallet. Turned upside down. Then I attach it to the bumper, with ratchet straps, off center behind the driver's side, pointy end forward, and put a couple cement blocks cradled on top for weight.
Drag it up and down a few times. And it moves the snow off without digging in to the road.
It seems to smooth it out better than a regular plow or front bucket.

I know there are some that don't stay at their cabins full time. It seems like people that can deal with "Cabin Life" whether full or part time. Can deal with situations differenty. Think outside of the box so to speak.
Lots of people without power, water, heat, fuel, food etc.
Would you rather deal with something like this, at home, or at your cabin?

Well the snow finally stopped falling (for a day at least, supposed to start again) and the tape measure stuck in the snow says 18" fell that I have to blow out now. That will be the task for today and will take me about 6-7 hours to get done. Ugh ! At least it will be a Balmy -5C/23F later today, but this morning it's warm up to -16C apparently at 10am so a most unpleasant start to the blowing affair...

I dunno if the area had any blackouts or anything as I've been snowed in as such and haven't been out to "civilisation". Would not be surpised if they had power outtages though given the region and some of the crud we got.

No such thing at home or cabin. I am a prepper light, gennie wired into house, but through the snowstorm, we never lost anything, not even a power bump. But we were snowed in pretty deep, but again, nothing I cant deal with, out comes the Kubota, clear entire culdesac and all neighbors driveways. We had an entire work party, everyone with snow shovels and me with my Kubota, was a great time.

Who does live at their 'small' cabin full time? If anyone does, how big is it? We get closer ever year, could almost sell the house and hotel it a night or two once in awhile for room service. I own the house outright, would pay for a lot of room service..

Not quite but almost there.... 10 months this year, 9 months the year before. Still considering renting our AZ home out and living full time at the cabin. BUT... though the wife is good with living at the cabin, she is not with renting the city house.

Gotta say though after being back in AZ a couple of weeks... living is sure easier here! Did have snow to shovel when we returned, but that melted away in less than a week. No water to haul, no wood to bring in, no fire to maintain, no solar panels to clear, no generator to run when the snow storms last, no snow plowing, little shoveling..... oh and it's between the low 30's and mid 60's most days.... yeah I'm kind of bored!

To answer Paulz who likely remembers, I am Full Time in my cabin 500sq feet, plus loft (storage only) and solar powered with 5 days reserve power, soon to be 7 days worth and all LFP (LiFePo4) as I do not count the FLA Bank in that equation but that is another 3 days (it is a backup bank now).

I was pulling for you to make it through this winter, until you weenied out. Just kidding, getting a vaccine shot was a definite priority. My pal in Phoenix just got an appointment but it's a few weeks out.

You're the man. Yeah, power.. I forget that my batteries get a chance to recharge while we're gone. Wouldn't fly full time but getting better. I'm at the cabin now, and actually for the first time relying solely on my solar bank (I have a charged backup Valence in the truck).

Oops, thread derailment. Sorry Darz. Hope you find your keys. I have a metal detector at the cabin but it goes off about every 3 inches.

At home for sure. The cabin is fine without power, water, heat, fuel, food, etc. At home, I have freezers full of food, plumbing, and house plants to protect. I have the means to do it but I have to be there doing it.

I LIKE that tip on the shipping skid snow plow!
There is a place on the way to our cabin that often has the heavy duty skids sitting out for any to take and Ive got c-blocks to silo-block there for weight.
now to get a 4wd to pull it.....

I'm thinking this might work a a "redneck" trail drag! We noticed the tracks on the Geo Tracker really started making whoop-t-dos in our trail... was getting pretty bumpy when we left. That pallet trick might just shave off the high points and flatten out the trail.

Did a quick mod to the redneck snow plow. I cut the lid off a traeger grill down the center. Then lag bolted it to the leading edge of the pallet. I still need to add 2 eyebolts to attach the ratchet straps. But I did 2 passes up and down to see if it helped, and it did. It tosses snow out the sides better. The first pic is where the road drifted over last nite. 2 passes cleaned it up nicely.

Snow is now all gone and we have had some nice weather. But this was day 2, after getting all cul-de-sac done and all driveways in cul-de-sac, we got even more snowfall that night and had to do it all over again.

Parked in neighbors yard, more snow fell that night as you can see.
Then round 2 of clearing.
