Hello,

My wife and I are getting serious about placing a small cabin on our land in Virginia. We already have electric on the property and will likely bite the bullet on a well. However, due to the rocky terrain and the lack of a perk test, I do not believe we want to invest in a septic (especially for 1 toilet).

My questions are:
1) What are our options around the black water? We have looked at the self-contained composting toilets but aren't sure about them.

2) What are the requirements for a legitimate gray water system? We'd have 1 or 2 sinks and possibly an outdoor shower.

Thank you in advance for your replies. For the toilet situation we are looking for the most "dummy proof" type where it wouldn't take too much education for guests etc.

Ditto paul and brett

Sanitation is usually handled by the state health dept.
