Recently got the cabin wired up to run off a generator and got a new 2200w inverter. It was HOT this weekend and I was in the middle of nowhere with cold ac blowing over me!

After 6 hours of the generator running I started wondering if it was good for a motor to run that long. I figure it was running under half load other then the short compressor spikes.

I could see using it for 10+ hours ideally.

2200? Was it the Honda? It wont even bat an eye, I have had mine run all day and night before, running compressors for constructions, fan for cooling on hot nights. Never missed a beat. I do regular oil changes oer mfg recommendations.

It’s a Westinghouse. Had good reviews on multiple sights and got it On sale for under $500.

Matt, advantage of those inverter gennies is no mandatory 3600 rpm (2 pole gennie) to get the 60 cycles, engine can throttle back and relax, thus, leading to much longer life.

Once everything is heated up it wont get any hotter so roughly 15min and everything will be up to temp. So really 1 hr or 20hrs all thst really changes is the fuel drops, the hour meter climbs and your oil gets a bit more dirty. I wouldnt worry about it.

The documentation with the genny will give you the recommended run times for the unit. My old King 3Kw did not specify a time limit when running in Power Save (low speed) mode but did state only 1 hour at high speed (2800w) due to heating. It did get very hot in summer but did ok in -20c. It only died due to an electrical overload failure.

When that died, I bought an Energizer EZV3200P which is quieter and has more foam (and mostly plastic) and they do not recommend running at high speed for more than 30 minutes at a time... It get's extremely hot and the fans don't seem t do much. I have not pushed this unit and it's relegated to 3rd backup because it is a piece of JUNK !

Immediately from purchase, carburetor idle surging non-stop, 2 weeks later dead as a doornail. In for service, took 3 weeks of "parts swapping" and they replaced ALL the electronics & carb too... it works now but under rated power AND the carb is still surging (up to 550 rpm up & down) and they claim it's the electronic control on carb...

One thing with all these Generators, they work hard to do their job, regular (religiously) oil changes are a must or they will fail. I usually switch to 0/40 Synthetic after breakin and that has worked for all my equipment as I depend on it.

I run my Princess Auto 3300w for hours a day (4-8). It keeps on going.
