So I'm closing on some land soon, It has a camper on it with a shower and there is a spring with a cistern about 100 ft away. I want the option to take warm showers while I stay in the camper whilst building my cabin.
I've seen some external propane powered water heaters that might be a good option, but what about electric? I will have a 2000w Honda generator for power at the RV that will be my power source till I get solar at the cabin.
Is it better to just get a propane powered heater and not worry about using the generator for that, or are there good electric options that don't require a lot of wattage?

You can get a propane on demand water heater for $100 bucks on up to whatever you want to spend. I replaced a 10 gallon electric heater in the bathroom and paid more for a 10 gallon one, than I could have bought a 30 gallon one for. But the big tank won't fit under the counter. Also bought an ecotemp L5 for a little over $100 bucks.
If you believe simple is better. Then propane is the cheaper and easier way to go. You need propane, a D cell battery and water pressure. When you want to shower all you have to do is turn on your pump, and shower. As opposed to starting a Genny, waiting for the water to heat up. Then turn on your pump and take a shower. Then go shut off the Genny.
You can take pretty many showers on a BBQ tank of propane.

I don't think without the tank being elevated that gravity would be enough. They need a good flow rate to fire the heater. A 12v shurflo pump isn't all that expensive.
Some of the eccotemp units will sell with a pump for a good deal.

Water pressure increases .433 psi per foot of elevation. So, 5' elevation equals 2.165 PSI, or there about.

Look's like I'll be going with an EcoTemp L5 and Pump combo. I hear you can get about 18 hours of hot water with a 20 gallon propane tank, that's like a year's worth of showering haha.

If you just want a warm shower ,temporary, elevate a dark colored barrel. The sun will heat the water. If you have a pump , fill it as necessary. Won't be hot, but it won't be too cold. We had this setup at our camp. Not fancy but worked ok. old243

Get the 12v rv pump at least 3gpm and the propane on demand. If you live where it can greze get the iheat propane ondemand heater from home depot.com. its got more temp rise than the 5L ecotemp.
You need to look at the temp rise at a specific GPM not the 5L, 7L or 10L rating. All manufactures rate there heaters different.

I am using it in my cabin with a shurflo pump. Works well. I bought it somewhere else on sale.
What are you planning on using in your cabin? Could you buy what you plan on using and temp hook up for now?
