Everywhere I look they're backordered, both the regular and companion model, or the price is jacked to $1500+ to take advantage of the shortage.
Anyone know why they seem so hard to source?
Anyone have a good online source to try (will be calling Mayberry's tomorrow in NJ, I bought my EU1000i from them eons ago)?

I believe there was a recall on them.
I couldn't find any info on what the recall was for when I first heard about it. I got an email from a local farm stuff store notifying of the recall.

Thanks Nate R, after seeing your post did some Googling, sounds like an issue with the fuel valve screws loosening and allowing fuel to leak:

Sounds like the 2800's had a recall in December too:

Little unnerving from big old Honda to have two recalls like that in a row.
Not sure what my plan is now, I guess wait and hope they can get product moving again soon, I'd be reluctant to buy anything that's currently in stock because I'd be afraid it was one of the affected units (even though the letter says don't sell these units).

I wonder if the demand was super high from the cold winter, many areas are still experiencing harsh winter still. I was running my Honda EU6500is during a outage from heavy snowfall.

I saw that, as I generally trust them as an online vendor, but the fine print shows:
"Backordered Online — will ship in 30 or more Business Days
Not Available in Stores"
It looks like at least Home Despot has the 2800's in stock again so hopefully the 2200's will come back from recall reasonably quickly, in the meantime I guess I'll just use my camping EU1000i and haul it back and forth, it will at least provide some power although hard to run some tools with it.

Look into the Yamaha units if you need one sooner than later. They seem pretty decent. I have been running one for a couple years.

Get the EB2800. More power and i believe its cheaper. Homedepot sells them.

see electric generator depot has the 1000 and larger but no listing for the 2000. they must be out also. 819 for the 1000 ( Honda EU1000i 1,000-Watt 120-Volt Super Quiet Light Weight inverter Generator )

EU2000i is now obsolete, replaced with EU2200i (same, just a few more watts)

Thanks for everyone's feedback.
Got this reply from Mayberry's (reputable dealer, where I bought my EU1000i a long long time ago):
"Unfortunately all the "EU"2200 models (regardless of the suffix) are on "stop sale notice" because of a possible leaking fuel valve. Honda is not even shipping ANY EU2200's from the warehouses. We are still waiting for more paperwork from Honda, sorry but that's all we know at the minute..."
So sounds like they won't be around for a while.
For me I'm going to just use my EU1000i for now... longer run time to charge and I will have to carry it back and forth as I use it with my camper van primarily, but I can at least get some batteries charged with it once I get the main electrical system in but before the solar goes in.
If this goes on for a long time I will look at the Yamaha's for sure. Not as interested in the EB2800 (which also had recent fuel leak issues but fixed units seem to be out there now) as I don't really need that much power and it is louder (we REALLY like how quiet our current EU is). Not totally scientific but decent comparison:

2000 still runs like a top but has been around awhile. Figured a spare wasnt a bad ideal. Just picked up a 2200 a couple months ago. Haven't fired it up yet.
Hopefully I get something in the mail detailing a fix for the issue.

Thanks for the info. I will have to check my serial number and see. I bought the EU2000I Companion knowing I would most likely need to connect two and I thought it would be easier to pick up a lightly used EU2000I if I needed it. 5 Years later, still don't need it but just wondering if I should pick up the next lightly used one I can find. If my current one is compatible I might just wait.
I am with AK Seabee, my 2000 just runs and runs, never missing a beat.

Yamaha EF2000iSv2 , reliable, quiet and for under 800$ on line, you can't go wrong !
