They all burn propane so they all could produce CO. There are many reasons why CO could be produced. There is no way to predict how much CO might be produced. Some have low O2 level shutoffs but still could produce CO before that mechanism is activated. Having had friends come close to death because of CO and a dead battery in the CO alarm they trusted, I personally do not want anything to do with any non vented heater anyplace.

Any alternatives? We want to have a big tent, or tipi, for guests...there are not many, but enough cold desert nights where a city dweller would want some sort of heat.

I have a tent stove from amazon in my small metal toolshed/work shop. It all collapses and fits inside itself.

Mine also came with this water heater that clamps on the flue. You can't see it in the pic but I clamp it high enough to put a pot or cup under it easily.

Quoting: Borrego Anyone know of a good, propane powered, and safe tent heater?
Somewhere I have one of these: Coleman 5053A751 ProCat Perfectemp Catalytic Propane Heater with Instastart Technology
Its a catalyst type, it does have a D cell battery for a small fan. It uses the small propane tank (16.4oz) and I use it at an outdoor, but we did have a roof overhead, winter series motocross racing and some flat track and this would keep me warm on the bench as I sat there as temps plunged well into freezing. If someone is in a tent and they are cold, keep this around your head area, aimed inside the sleeping back, dont expect it to heat the tent completely unless its a small pup tent, but you wont be cold.

Those Mr. Heater units are safe. Research them and use them as intended. They are awesome.

I have one of those Solo Bonfire stoves. They work great in a tipi.
