Anyone in here have an experience refilling the little 1 lbs bottles? They claim to not be refillable and are disposable but you can find fill kits all over the internet.

I've watched a lot of videos on doing it, and lately, a few good ones showing that chilling the bottles doesn't really accomplish much.
Tons of people doing it...absolutely insane what you pay for propane in the 1 lbs bottles versus a 20-pounder.
A lot of the new 20 lbs tanks have a safety in them that blocks the flow if the tank isn't in an upright position....
Go have a look at youtube....enough videos there to make your eyes cross. hehe

Do it all the time. Harbor Freight has the adapter. Haven't run across the upside down tank safety thing..

My friend pulls out the little valve on the 1lb. bottles with needle nose pliers when he does his to fill the them fuller. I don't bother since it takes 3 hands and I have a dozen spare bottles to go through before I have to refill. And not sure how safe that is to do..

If you don't have a 'dip tube' tank, or otherwise set it up where you can invert the tank to get liquid and not gas, you will not be very successful.
Not propane, but I have filled hundreds of CO2 bottles in my time (Big in to paintball). Chilling accomplishes nothing. Don't bother.
The secret is make sure the receiving tank is totally empty. I've seen many of guys get to a low-air state (usually your gun won't fire and makes a tell-tale BRRRRrrraaaaappp sound), run in, hit the fill station and be out of air again 10 minutes later.
Even though they are out of liquid, there's still a lot of pressure in the tank. Nearly as much as in the supplying tank. Very shortly after cracking the transfer valve open, pressures in the two tanks equalize and flow stops. No matter what you do, you ain't gonna get another drop of liquid into your bottle in that condition. I've seen guys heat tanks, chill tanks, invoke voodoo priests and all kinds of crazy crap trying to get a full load of LIQUID CO2 in a 20oz bottle. I could get it done every time simply by opening the vent valve till my 20oz tank stopped hissing before filling. Some guys viewed my ability to get a full load as a god-like power.
I imagine its the same thing with propane. Make sure the 1lb bottle is totally empty and exhausted, and you should have better results.

I've never refilled a 1# bottle, but I've used a 20# grill bottle to put gas in an empty 420# tank for testing or emergencies. Have to but the small bottle upside down on top of a stepladder.

Quoting: sparky30_06 Anyone in here have an experience refilling the little 1 lbs bottles? They claim to not be refillable and are disposable but you can find fill kits all over the internet. Bought the kit
Tried it
Not worth the effort to me
But then, I hardly ever use the 1 lb bottles
...a bit OT, but my Buddy heaters don't seem to like the 20 lb units, of which riled me a bit until I got hold of the Dyna Glo unit
Back to happy now
