I finally have my well pump and generator mostly dialed in so I can fill my 750 gallon tank without too much farting around. The pump is a Gould 3/4 hp 220v, 10 or 20 gpm can't recall. But it's 40ft down the well and another 125 up to the tank. At the well shack it will shoot a stream of water 20ft out a garden hose. I have about 8 50' 5/8" garden hoses right now going up the hill to my tank, where I'm getting 4-5 gpm. I have run the pump over an hour at a time filling the tank. I'm concerned that the pump may be overtaxed, and also wondering what hose/pipe diameter would be optimal.

I think 1" line is pretty much standard size for that line. As for pump, I bet as long as its running nice cool water, its going to remain cool. But I am no expert on this.

Thanks TMT. Yeah I'm thinking 1 inch too. There's something about friction losses in different pipe sizes, and I suppose head height and pump rating have some bearing but 1 inch does seem to be the popular choice.
