So we have an outhouse at the cabin. He top of the outhouse at the front and at the back has ventilation openings, basically the size of a long narrow window, say 6 inches by 2 feet. Anyway, as a result of the mosquitos we decided to screen it in. We've never had issues with animals or anything. This weekend after returning we found the new screen shredded! Both of them shredded, one of them all the way across. Inside the outhouse we found a big pile of leaves and some pink insulation. Would a squirrel do that? We are on An island and to my knowledge no raccoons or possums. We will try to go another round with it this weekend, we have some stronger screen and some sharp metal lathe... Just wonder what could do this without having a game camera of course...

Squirrels could definitely do that to a screen. The insulation is the best clue though. They love insulation.

Use metal screen, not nylon. Used to be steel, but most metal screen is now anodized aluminum. Worst case, use hardware cloth on top (looks like screen with big holes but is much stronger than screen)

We've seen the toilet seat chewed out. We figure it's a raccoon or something that like the salt residue. We hope it wasn't from the other seasoning in there.

They love toilet paper too. Went out to our property one time only to find all the TP in the outhouse gone except for some shreds. Luckily we had brought some with us.

Squirrels are a total pain in the ass. That along with field mice chew up everything. Some days I feel like I am winning the battle but not being there full time, I know the reality is I am loosing. I have learned to only use metal screens.

Hardware cloth is a must, followed by metal screening. Squirrels will do nearly anything to get into a building, and once they're in, it's open season on anything you value.
This year they chewed 3 holes through my chicken coop wall to get into the inside (apparently the mice have been storing feed in the walls, which the squirrels wanted). Since then, keeping them out has been a huge challenge, and they're ruining the building bit by bit. My trusty pellet gun and I are up to 15 this year, and I'll continue to shoot first, ask questions later until the population has lessened. Destructive little buggers!
