In the never ending search to get more for less I recently got a swift kick in the back side by my intetnet provider who hiked my rates from $20.00 a month for crappy 5 meg service to $49.00, so it became time to re evaluate the internets roll in my life...that was a true revelation when I put pen to paper and listed the pro's and con's of having the internet and what it contributed in my life....not much.

With that I decided to keep the internet but in a more realistic and useful form.

The result was to get off cable entirely by moving to a smart phone combining phone and internet while saving an additional $20.00 a month and getting enough internet at 4g and 5 gb a month to meet my meager needs.

Another benefit is a significant power savings of 30 watts by eliminating the modem, router, computer and phone power supply, the new smart phone uses only 3 watts when plugged in which makes the power savings alone in my micro power world BIG!

Been a week so far and it is so much better all around, am really enjoying it!

I should have done this years ago!

Nice! When I'm at my cabin I connect my laptop to my smartphone and the the "personal hotspot" feature on my iPhone. I was surprised that it not only connected me to work... But I was able to set up my VPN, use soft phone for telephone calls, as well as screen sharing software.

It all worked like a champ!

I do the same Rich. No complaints here either. Nice to be able to stream a movie after a day of busting our humps.

groingo, looks like a smart move on all counts. Enjoy!

I've been downloading movies and other programs to my smart phone from free wifi areas, the playing them at my cabin using a wireless connection to my 12v 19" TV.
