Thinking about getting the Yamaha ef2400ishc as a backup to the solar system. I've used one on the job, and I was really impressed with it.
Anyone have any thoughts on propane conversion?
Anyone have experience with this company?

Thanks

I'd say a tri fuel rig from the factory, tough to beat. Cant go wrong with a Yamaha.

Don't know anything about that vendor. I'd buy the same thing from Central Maine if I was looking as I have a friend who has used them for years as a generator source for his clients and has been extremely happy. Slightly less money too! If that OP was the spam I think it was I'd even more so recommend central maine.

Thanks for linking that site! Great selection and prices! Do they build their own generators, basically? I noticed that some have Honda motors but no other brand name listed on them. (which doesn't bother me in the least.) These things have really good features!

Um, no...not spam.
Just a genuine guy looking for genuine information, opinion and experience.
But thanks for the link, anyway.

Sorry for thinking 'spam', but a 1st post on a forum with wording and a link like you did is frequently a spam.

Anyhow, IMO, propane has advantages especially if you have an on ground tank that is serviced by a propane company. 200 or more gallons. No need to haul gasoline, no need to handle the liquid gas, no need to worry about freshness of the gasoline, less maintenance for the engine. Disadvantages include less energy per gallon of propane when compared to gasoline and the fact that a propane conversion usually voids the generator manufacturers warranty. Central Maine backs their converted generators with their own warranty.

My friend has used CM for years for propane converted Honda EU3000's whenever his off grid system clients want a backup generator. He is extremely satisfied with them.

Yeah, I was wondering which one I would get more mileage out of, gas or propane.
But, not having to deal with the hassles of gasoline is worth a bit of extra money to me.
I have seen a lot of people talking about Hondas, but I read in some amazon review that they use plastic housing and drive belts/chain, and that Yamaha uses a metal housing and direct drive.
The only one I have any experience with is this Yamaha...
Six of one?

Well the blue ones get stolen less frequently so that is always a plus. You can't go wrong with either the Honda or the Yamaha.

As for propane conversion, that would be a nice feature for the cabin if you have a large tank that you are already getting filled.

Looks like the Central Maine version doesn't come with the tri fuel conversion kit already installed.
If that is indeed the case, I'll happily pay $11.74 to have someone else install it.

How do you figure that??? Quote from this page....

"Triple-Fuel Yamaha EF2400iSHC Inverter Generator - Cleaner, quieter and more fuel options. The next step forward in generator technology. This Yamaha EF2400i operates on LP Gas, Natural Gas and Gasoline right out of the box, No mechanical alterations are necessary. Simply change your fuel source."

They also sell the kit as a DIY parts kit if you already have a generator.

You are correct. I was looking at the TRI-FUEL KIT FOR
YAMAHA EF2400I link.

I purchased a 13,750kw Propane Generator from Central Maine Diesel a few years ago. But in fact the one i like most is Cummins generator.

20 HP Honda engine, Italian generator head.
Paid about $2300 plus shipping via Paradise Freight which was a few hundred.
I see the price is just a bit higher now...

Recently it blew a capacitor. Central Maine sent me 2 for the price of one even though it

is out of warranty. $39 total for two.

I looked at generators on island but a similar Honda at Quality electric was close to $6000

and it wasn't even a 13750kw. More like 8 or 9000kw if I remember right.....

Quiet, no smell, propane lasts forever........
