My buddy has a composting toilet and he uses a small computer CPU fan to vent it and it works great! Of course he has power. I don't have power and because of trees, solar is out of the question. What battery source would you recommend to run this thing? There may be times I'm not at the cabin for 3-4 weeks. I need it to run constantly. Thoughts?

I know many pit and composting toilets don't require fans to vent, all they use is a tall vent pipe with either a hook or screened cap on top, typically you want at least 6 foot of pipe or just flush a bit of peat moss down the toilet before you leave or finally there are a lot of deodorizer's for pit and composting toilets too.

You'd be using a lot of batteries to keep it running for weeks on a charge. You sure solar is out of the question? Even if your panel was in light half the time it might be enough to keep it going

A typical 80mm computer fan draws 1-2 watts, a 120mm 3-5 watts. At 12 volts that is a range of 0.17 to 0.42 amps. Divide that into the amp-hour capacity of a 12 volt battery to get an idea on how many hours that would be.

I have a composting toilet. I use a 10' vent pipe/no fan. No smells either. whew. I do add wood chips from horse bedding to keep everything a bit drier from time to time. This summer I plan to experiment with Bokashi composting. Looks pretty cool.
