We head to the cabin every weekend. Last weekend -35c(-31f), -45c(-49f) with the wind chill. Manitoba is cold. Husband and I when for hour long Cross country ski. Its been crazy cold here for 3 weeks. Have to get up at night 5 to put wood in the stove (mix of oak and pine) I love winter, but -20c would be much more enjoyable

This has turned into a classic lake effect storm here in upstate NY. I-81 is closed in the Tug Hill area north of Syracuse. The Thruway (I-90) is closed from Rochester to the PA state line. Snow is going to accumulate in the feet in those areas.
I'm about 25 miles SE of Rochester and we have no snow and the sun is out...just cccold.
Classic lake effect.

We sat at the truck stop in IL for two days. We are finally moving. The roads are dry in spots than turn into a snowy and icy coverd mess. Just trying to make it to Indianaplois today. Parking tonight. MI tomorrow the roads are still bad there.

I think the people that love winter don't drive for a living. I love winter if I am safely tucked away at home with the hubby,a good book and plenty of hot beverages. It's three weeks on the road and four days home so we spend all winter hoping for loads on the I-10 and chasing winter storms.

I feel for the guys who drive alone. So many signs on the back of rigs that say "Home Every Weekend".
I have to wonder....

Yes, very true, I am sure. Glad you are moving again, but be careful...watch out for the crazies

They are regional drivers. They don't make as much money because they get short hauls and many have to unload their trailers. OTR teams make the most money. We get long hauls and never have to unload the trailer. It's nice to know there is somebody here to help you if need be.

I-57N IL today a ten mile stretch:

Here in WNY we have been under a blizzard since yesterday. Goes until tomorrow morning at 6am.
It's been 19 years since our last blizzard.

Good thing the Super Bowl isn't at The Ralph!
Were you there for the big one back in '78?

Looks as if he spun right around. Lucky is right! Looks like a scene from Highway Thru Hell.
Thanks for the heads up on OTR. Safe driving, and as they say up North, keep yer stick on the ice.

You mean the one in '77? Yup, I was there but yet a year old though.

My farmer's Almanac says that there is another HUGE storm happening right around the superbowl this year.

Finally made it to Warren MI with auto parts from MX. The roads in the Detroit area turned into black ice as the sunset. Many accidents. This is night number four that I have sat out. I am very lucky to work for a trucking company that has a strong safety policy in place. Maybe I'll be able to drive tomorrow night.

I've always enjoyed the winter - but we don't have to drive in it like many do. I like it because it is our quiet season, so I can sit and read and do things I don't have time for in the other seasons. It is my lazy season. *smile*

I hope all of you who need to be out on the roads stay safe!!!

We are in the Royse TX area taking a alternative route due to a chain reaction accident on a bridge. This happened early this morning and the road is still closed. Cause? Fog and drivers not driving for conditions. One driver was arrested for DUI.

So we stopped for a BBQ dinner and took out the atlas and found a way around it.

I love winter. I worked in the elements for 25 years and had to drive on bad roads all the time. I didn't care for the driving part but always enjoyed the outdoors in the winter. I enjoy walking, snow shoeing, and fishing in the winter. I couldn't imagine living in an area where there was no snow and being cold. Some times it feels like 9 month's of winter and 3 month's of hard sledding. LOL

Same here. Every plumber is booked up for over a week. They say EVERYONE'S water pipes froze.

Fortunately our's are thawed and 24 hours of rain yesterday has taken care of virtually all of the snow.

Tomorrow's forecast high is 61 then more show flurries on Tuesday. Strange, indeed.

Yup, my basement is flooded. We received 2 foot of snow last week with -10 temps, and now it was 50 degrees today with pouring rain.

My chickens don't know what to make of this weather.

Everything is flooded including Caz creek which is right next door to me. Again.

I think yesterday was the first day above freezing all winter, and it started early. I know we just got done with 100 hours below zero.
Neb, I like winter too, but it's been too cold here. Maybe now we can enjoy it.
