I just saw this thing and I didn't even know such thing exists... I didn't fully connect my water pump ( I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000B63ZAU/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
So I am not sure how noisy it get or if, like someone mentioned, it will do that mid-night adjustment - which sounds annoying.
Any thoughts/experience on this? Is it a most?

optimistic, I just hooked up a cistern water system at my cabin and I used that pump with the Pre Pressurized Accumulator tank and it works great. With out it, the pump runs anytime you draw water. With it, the pump ran about 30% less. Here is the one I bought http://www.amazon.com/SHURflo-182-200-Pre-Pressurized-Accumulator-Tank/dp/B000N9VF6Q/ ref=pd_sim_auto_2

You only need one if the constant on/off of the RV pump annoys you. I suspect that the motor will last a tiny bit longer since the cycling is reduced.
Nothing bad will happen if you decide not to use one.

In addition to the pump cycling less, the water pressure will also be normalized somewhat. This means you'll experience less fluctuation as you run the faucets. I think they're nice, but not required.

I use a Shurflo 12 volt pump on my water tank.Work's great. It can pull water up from 10 feet below it.Kick's on when you open a facuet.Shut's off when you close it.Just like in a camper.
