Hi all,
I'm hunting for a portable water pump and wondering what you like? We have a lake nearby and I'd love to fill our 55gal barrels from it on occasion. I'd also love to be able to pump out those barrels which makes me things a submersible wont be great. The Wayne 1/2 hp pump looks nice but I'd have to load the generator into the truck to run the pump at the lake...generator weighs 120lb and is not easily loaded. The duramax pump moves a lot more water and has its own engine for $80 more. Which way have you gone? I like an all in one but I have a generator and am not really looking for another engine to maintain....probably just use the pump 3-5 times a year so cheaper is better...

Get a 12vdc bilge pump and hook it up to your vehicle's battery with clips. Be sure and wire in a fuse, though. They come in sizes ranging from a few hundred to thousands of gallons per hour. Any head will reduce the rated outflow.
If you are going to use the water directly from the barrels, plumb the pressure pump to pull the water out. Or, put a spigot in the small hole, and lay the barrels on their sides before you fill them.

This is what I use.It is a small 6 inch od, 1/2 horse sump pump stuck in a 2 gallon plastic bucket with a piece of filter material wrapped tightly sealed around the opening of the pail.I plug it into my 40 pound genny.hook it to a garden hose,toss it into the water and there yah goo!

Shure flow 12 volt RV pump. You won't be disappointed.
It may take a while to fill a 55 Gallon drum. Check the gallons/minute or gallons /hr to see how long any type of pump will take.

How far and how high do you need to pump from lake to barrels?

Here is what we use to pump water from the lake to our 250 gallon water tank. It is Subaru PKV101. Got it Online from waterpumpsdirect.com
It is a little pricy but is an amazing pump. I have other photos posted in my water tower thread.
