Thanks for all the info in this thread. My Ontario, Canada cabin doesn't have heat except for the wood stove, so when I'm not there, the temps are freezing. Will this affect the mantles at all? I'm looking to have a couple propane lamps installed. Thank you.

I messed about with the old Coleman mantle lanterns early on in our '83-'84 build. They were bright light but we didnt care for the hiss and the mantles are brittle.
We found better user friendliness with large kero/lamp oil table lamps with the wide wicks; still have a few in the 'new cabin' just in case.
But, that said, LED lights (available now in the more pleasant spectrum) are the best cabin lights we have ever had. They draw so little amps for the light they put out that a small battery can run some a long time (we rarely have more than 1 of the 4 I installed going at one time anyway, but we can).
I cant imagine us not having them from here on.

Exactly this! I don't know why anyone would mess with propane lights when there are so many LED options.

Mr heater did make propane lamps that are wall mount. I dont think they make them any more. Humphry also made them for trailers I believe. I have 3 for our cabin to be.

With all the fuss over LP unvented stoves for eating and heating in a cabin Im surprised there doesnt seem to be concern over 'gas lights'.
Potential gas leaks
Air quality
Fire danger
Etc

They definitely emit CO, but not at high amounts. They do add heat, which can be good or bad depending on season.
I ran them for 40 years, and have them as backup in my new cottage but haven't run them in the 7 years I've been there and agree LED lights are the way to go

They produce 11kbtu each. We use to leave one lit all night on the stairs.
