I've been using seven Marine batteries for eight years (primarily weekends) at our cabin. Most of the energy goes to a composting toilet fan, tv, lights etc. I haven't had any problems. Are deep cell batteries really better? I know they have heavier plates and can be charged and discharged more often. I just wonder if anyone has done a true cost comparison...more deep cell batteries vs. fewer marine batteries over time. Charge controller and Inverter

6V golf cart batteries aren't much more expensive than marine batteries, and they are easier to series together so they charge evenly.
In short, yes, they are much better.

If you have 7 years out of a Marine Battery then you must be the luckiest man alive. Or you actually have more battery capacity than really needed and thus never take a deep draw on them. I know people who have killed 8 to 12 Marine/RV batteries in a year. They both now run golf cart batteries and are into their second or maybe third year.
So whatever you are doing it is working; keep it up.
I try to be careful with system sizing and use but never managed to get more than 2 to 3 years out of Marine/RV batteries. After doing that a few times I switched to golf cart; this was in an RV. The GC went 6 years and then we sold the RV.

Thanks MtnDon, I guess I keep going until they stop working. I'll take a look at the GC batts when I need to.
