I came across a good deal on these batteries (Cat generator battery model 153-5720) and wondered if I could use them in my solar set up. I have read to stay away from high cold crank amp batteries but these have 465 minutes of reserve capacity and 210 amp hour capacity @ 20 hours. Like I said, a good price too (2009 used 4 for $500). They are a calcium lead alloy grid design BCI group D battery.

Depending on how your set up-& power going into them. I have (3) of them in a rack---lots of power-I charge (1) at a Time & use (1) @ a time. my 2 cents.

Quoting: shovelshort wondered if I could use them in my solar set up. I think they would be fine, just don't consistantly discharge the bank below 50%....
