I know getting off grid can be a challenging task, you get sooo close but then there is just one more snag, you lack enough power seems to be the key hangup, and getting that power (within budget) seems to be reason number two, so what happened to you?

We're off grid; just had to pay what it cost, which was still cheaper than a grid connection.

But yes, the biggest error made by people seeking to be off grid is underestimating their power needs and wants with the resulting insufficient battery capacity followed by insufficient PV capacity.

For me, it was more cost-effective to go on the grid.

Dollar for dollar it is probably cheaper to buy grid tied electric than to make your own with a generator.I go through 4 or 5 gallons of gas a week equals 20 bucks times 4 so $80 bucks a month for electric.I dont want to pay out the big bucks to run the wires out to the road so it's my only option. What I really love is no more stuffing envolopes full of money pluss your stamp going out to utilities every month.Gas water, electric, sewer on top of board and rent truck payment and insurance, phone and internet and tv.Grant you I still have to buy propane and gasoline but it's been tons cheaper to live here.Ive been able to pay off the credit card and actually am saving money for a change. So it was well worth the move and the fun Iv'e been having building this cabin.Nothing but a purely positive experience.

i'm on the end of the power line & it goes out a lot---Unfortunly my Well is 455 ft deep & not much water at that Depth-I have to have 220 volts to pump it.12 volt pumps wont pull or Push water that high. to the surface. I do have a 60 Gallon expansion Tank which provides me with a lot of reserve..I've been here since 84 but it took over 3 years just to get power.I do have some solar PV lights More to be hooked up- and I do enjoy Solar Hot Water pre heating that 56 degree well water before the electric water Heater..
have a great weekend to all.
