This guy retired in his 50's in Alaska, built a small off-grid cabin and quite a few other things. He took color movie cameras to record his progress. Approximately 1 hour long, but very enjoyable!

This is what people say when they see my log cabin....

If I had a dollar for every time I've heard that; I could say that building with logs was not such a losing proposition.... Damn that Dick Proenekke - he made me do it. ;-)

I've got all three DVD's that have him in it. The one he narrates is kind of hard to understand. Once you hear it, you'll understand why someone else narrates the other one. Alone In The Wilderness Part II was just released a few weeks ago. I can't wait to get it.

Just watched that last night! Dang he's an awesome carpenter. So many little things like the knife holder out of a block of wood. You have to freeze frame to notice all those things.
