Well I thought we would be in AZ before winter hit up here but perhaps not.... forecast is calling for as much as 32" over the next 10 days. My wife is struggling with back nerve pain issues so we are going back early so the doctor can keep narrowing down the exact location of the nerves in duress. So far so good. He has eased her pain about 75-80%.
Anyway, had to put the winter "shoes" on our Geo Tracker and mount the snowplow. We are a mile off the main road and it's pretty steep incline up our road. We will park our other cars, both 4x4, at the main road prior to the storm really hitting on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Hopefully since we are prepared the storm will fizzel! Forecast

Hope it all works out well for you to make the escape! We are well away yet from any significant snow (afaik) and hoping to be at the cabin for a 'light' one, should be great, as long as we can still drive out about 320' to the town road. Im gonna take some extra beef stew just in case.....

Yeah. I saw that. Not as bad for my home area. I'm in CA and we're hoping the weather window we see carries us home in some sunshine Mon-Tue, before a snowy Wed.
Back nerve pain..... Can be enough to make you crazy. Stenosis? I'm having some come-n-go issues; partially resolved. Getting old,........ Still better than the alternative. Best of luck to your wife. And you

Actually he is leaning to Lumbar facet arthropathy. Basically arthritis on the facets, so impingement on the nerves causing the pain. She has had 4 nerve blocks which helped quite a bit. Almost all the sharp pain is gone. They want to do some more shots in slightly different locations to help narrow down which nerves are involved. Since this seems to be working, ablation will likely be the next step.
Looks like we are going to try to get out of here the 14th. Looks like maybe the best weather window for now.
God speed and good luck on your flight back from CA.

I wish it would snow here. It's been unusually warm and very dry here in the northeast. The camp community where our cabin is put out a special call this weekend for anybody who could to come up and rake/blow leaves away from the buildings due to the fire danger. There have been fires in the area about 5 miles away but nothing really close so far. One part of the problem is that it's a really popular hiking/camping area (we're about 2 miles from the AT) and people get careless with campfires.
But it sure was a nice place to be this weekend!

We got to NM with clear skies all the way, however, the clouds are beginning to build slightly north of us. Snow tonight I think.

Glad the flight went well! Our snow has started. Forecast is now for around 24" better than the original 32" . We took our rigs down to the fs road. The Tracker is up here so we can plow down to the main road if needed.

We got 2" Tuesday night then another 8-10" today. Still light snow tonight and tomorrow is forecast for another 7". Friday, another 6". Saturday on for several days daytime highs should be in the 40's so hoping we melt off. Been plowing the road so it might melt off quicker.

Our weather report this morning is reporting a blizzard warning for CO and NM, up to 8' in some places! How's it looking?

Has been light, fluffy snow so it settles down leaving 12" -18" on the ground right now. Altogether we have had around 24". It was windy off andbon during the storms so there are drifts in excess of 2'.
No one has been able to get in or out since Wednesday morning. We heard of one try Wednesday afternoon and they turned around 5 miles off the pavement (we are 23 miles from the pavement) deciding it was just too dicey. The crazy this is the valley got as much or more snow than we did. Usually when we drive out the depth keeps getting less and less.
Edit... forgot to add, the plow is coming in Sunday or Monday.
Supposed to clear out Saturday morning with the next week being mostly sunny and highs maybe into the 40's. I'll plow down to the main road today to help facilitate quicker melting... fingers crossed!
Plenty of food, water, wood gasoline and propane, out of Scotch but that is probably a good thing! Not the first time we've been snowed in here.

Mountain weather can be somewhat capricious at times. This has been one of those times. I haven't even run the tractor snow blower down the 2 mile drive to pavement here at home. I did use the Tacoma's 4WD, but not low range. My cabin is another matter altogether. To leave there I needed 4WD, Low range and the rear locker. I may not go back unless or until it melts down. What a difference 40-some miles and a mountain can make.

We are snowbirding hopefully next Thursday. Really early for us to leave the CO mountains (for AZ mountains! ) but my wife has doctors appointments for her back issue. The last treatment helped a lot so in for another as they narrow down which nerves for ablation. She/We would like nothing more than to get her pain free and able to hike and backpack again. We both turn 70 this coming year so likely not too many more years of backpacking left... hopefully 8-10! We'll see...
