I have not heard of any 4wd EV with that issue. Actually, I don't know of any 4wd EV with a transfer case. The older Tesla Model S (2013-2015) had issues with the motors eating splined shafts. Those issues are long over in the current models.

The Rivian RT1 actually is true 4 wheel drive. As it has 4 motors, one per wheel. Its crazy what the computer can do when you are in an extreme 4 wheel situation. That model makes 835HP and 908 Pound Feet of torque. It can also be used as a remote battery.... but... That model runs like $120K (sigh, only to be rich).

Back to the solar. Maybe watch auctions for cable. I got about 500ft of direct bury aluminum industrial feed cable for like $60. Each conductor is as big as my thumb. Maybe a way to save on cable and get an acceptable size.

Thank God for LFP!
I have been saving/maintaining a couple grp27 LA bats the past couple years; brought them home from cabin and recharged every month (and water when needed, but how do you know unless you pop the caps?). Figured they might be useful, you know, like having hooked up to solar for below freezing winter months, jump starting, etc.
Had to move them yesterday.....
Yikes! I hate em! Nasty, heavy, dirty, HEAVY. Ive used such for cabin living and some rv'ing since the early '80's.
Still loving my LFP's
I see some on Amazon for about 1/2 of what I paid. If you have been considering LFP, why wait?
Also, knowing what I do now, Id go 24v rather than 12 (not a cost issue, its a wiring & fusing issue) and one big 24v battery rather than series wiring 2x12v together.
Do note that not all LFP bats can be series wired anyway!
My 100w (and not cheapies) 12+ year old panels are seriously outdated now. I can buy used 235w panels (locally) for so cheap Im thinking of not even bothering to make dedicated mounts for my 100's.

LFP cell prices are currently dropping and will likely continue to do so for a "little" while yet but not too much longer. Most likely by mid-June the prices will be going back up after stabilizing.

The Upcoming GOTCHA's !
The EU & US are yammering about adding more duties on "components" including batteries. Some "babble" is even thumping the idea of 125% duty. It started as a bash on Chinese Company EV's being made in Mexico but grew another head where some want to duty up on everything.

Regardless, expect new duties, fees & levies to be applied starting this summer & being added to over the rest of the year... Also depends on how Politics Swings in several nations. (there are 40 federal elections this year).

Last Gotcha that will hit many, is the Red Sea Circus for shipping. That will have some effect on certain regions for deliveries. Many Shipping Companies are already increasing S&H costs and attributing it to the overall operation costs.... ANY Convenient Excuse to screw people for profit !

I would say buy the bigger pannels. I bought 6 "used" but new on the 5yr old pallet pannels for $0.32 per watt a few years ago.
They where also 230 or 235w pannels Plenty of people are also taking them off there roofs for one reason or another.


I'm still useing GC2s because there cheap, dont need to move and need to work in 0*f. When they fail il prob be putting lithium under the landing for my stairs.

I think many of us with LFPs, especially older ones, are chewing our lips on how much life they have left and where the market will be when they need replacing. What about those new Manganese LFPs you mentioned earlier Steve, anything new on those?

Myself, I check occasionally for what deals may be out west, like this:

And gcrank, I’m still swimming in FLAs too, since that still starts engines afaik. Generators, work carts, motorcycles, and my batch of old cars.

LFP is a good solid chemistry, production is ramping up in North America with several plants, and it will be around a long time. Of course, minor improvements will come along.

LMFP is a pretty new variant with higher energy density & temp profiles and are targeted towards EVs & out afterward, these are just coming out and it's not likely the general public will see them for a while.

My final order of LFP cells, cases etc have landed and are en-route. I'm finalizing my system after all this time & ces't finis ! \\YAY// finishing up the last few things and then to chill.

My take (fwiw, lol) is that the new up and coming bat technology(s) will be very expensive and wont be trickling down to us cabin folk anytime soon.
That says to me that LFP is the most cost effective storage system now and for a good long while to come. I suspect my 2x100ah LFP's will outlast me, or at least last longer at cabineering than I will. Buying the newest wiz-bang bat then wont give me any amortizing down of cost. Of course by then maybe we can each buy a pocket size fusion whole house generator
When new I started hash-marking each with the recharge (note that a partial recharge doesn't count as a 'use cycle'), to date the bats don't have many hash-marks. I expect with the new cabin coming in we will up our usage this year
